July Creative Competition – Monsters

Its time for a new season of Creative competition, with Monsters! This is a really exciting new competition as we’re changing the points system slightly. Now we’re giving honourable mentions (those builds that get at least one vote) a single point in the competition! This will be huge, as it’ll have a pretty big impact on the season standings. That one point could be the difference!

The July Comp world gate – located in the Creative Lobby – will replace the June gate which will close to building at 9pm on Friday June 30th.

The gate will open in the Creative Lobby on the morning of July 1st, so get thinking about that monster! A huge thanks to Kisney for the gate build this month!

Season 2 Prizes

As you know, each month we give away the following prizes, now with the new inclusion:

  • 1st Prize: 4x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 15 Emerald Points
  • 2nd Prize: 3x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 10 Emerald Points
  • 3rd Prize: 2x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 5 Emerald Points
  • Honourable mention (1 vote): 1 Emerald Point

Each month the Emerald Points are tallied up and can be seen in the Emerald Hall on the Survival Lobby world. At the halfway point of the season (March for Season 1 and September for Season 2) we give away prizes to the current top three Emerald Points winners:

  • 1st Place: 1x $25 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 2nd Place: 1x $10 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 3rd Place: 1x $10 JB HiFi Voucher

At the end of the season (June and December), the grand prizes are awarded to the final top three Emerald Points winners from across the 6 months of competition. These are the big ones! This season we’re giving away:

  • 1st Prize: $250 worth of LEGO! It’ll be in the form of a LEGO store voucher, sent online. Nice and easy!

  • 3rd Prize: $50 JB HiFi Voucher

Exciting times! Bring on Season 2!

Evaluation Survey 2023!

It’s the end of the financial year, so it’s evaluation time! We’d love to know what you think about LibraryCraft. In order for us to make this server the best it can be, and to get some information for the 2022/23 Annual Report, we’re asking for your input.

There are two separate surveys:
– Player’s Survey: https://culturecounts.cc/s/73DKfQ
– Parent’s Survey: https://culturecounts.cc/s/3MzbSk

It’s important that we also get thoughts from the parents, as they’re a crucial part of getting onto the server to start with.

We’re also offering an incentive to give us your thoughts in the Players Survey!

Three player entries will be randomly selected to receive a netherite ingot, a diamond block and two mega crate keys in 120Survival, when that starts! Entries are able to be received from now until 22 July 2023.

The information we receive is valuable to us as it can help us improve the server and the programs that happen in and around it, as well as seeing how important it is in the community.

Don’t forget, we’ve still got the big giveaway happening with The Curse of the Broken Language! We’re giving away a $100 JB HiFi voucher, and that closes on July 30th. We’ve had a few entries already, and it’s not too hard to do.

The LC Vault Hunters Player’s Guide & Download Instructions now available!

Friday is the big day! Friday after school, the LC Vault Hunters server will be open to players that have completed the whitelist process for LCVH. If you’re not sure what that is, check out the LC Vault Hunters page on the site. We’re really happy with the spawn area! Just wait until you see it at night. It changes….

In order to make the process as smooth as possible, the LC Vault Hunters Player’s Guide is now available for eligible players to familiarise themselves with. Included in this Guide is instructions to install the Modpack. Note: you won’t be able to connect to the server until after school on Friday.

We’ll announce the URL to the server in the Players Guide and in the Discord on Friday. The modpack and Guide is available now so you can get it set up on your PC, ready for Friday.

If you have any questions, use the #lcmodded-general channel on the Discord, or send us an email if you don’t have Discord access. It’s so close!

Pixel Expo: Level 2 Ticket Giveaway!

After the hugely successful event last year, Pixel Expo has levelled up to level 2 and will be back again, this time for 2 whole days! Not only that, but we’ll be there too! We’re heading back to the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre on the 5th and 6th August. We’ve also got five free weekend passes to give away to our players! Each weekend pass is worth $50, so it’s definitely worth entering.

We’re still working on what we’re going to have there, but we’ll definitely have both the main server and the Vault Hunters server on show for people to check out, plus with two whole days of show, there’s going to be so much more to check out.

Giveaway

If you are whitelisted during the time of this post, you’re eligible to enter. We’ll be selecting five players using computerised random selection to each receive a weekend pass to Pixel Expo: Level 2.

To enter, complete the form before 9pm on Sunday July 2nd. We’ll need your real name and your username. You’re limited to one entry per whitelisted player.

Full terms and conditions are visible at the bottom of the form. Good luck!

LC Vault Hunters Terms & Conditions Now Available!

We’re getting so close to the release of the LC Vault Hunters server, and the first stage is now here! One of the important steps to get access is completing an extra Terms & Conditions form. You can read all about the requirements and the Vault Hunters server itself on the LC Vault Hunters page.

It’s important that both the player AND parent read through this form carefully and sign it to say you understand it. Like it says in the form, LC Vault Hunters is a privilege for our older players and we’re so excited to be able to offer it.

If you have previously completed this form for the LC Create server, you don’t need to complete this one. This is just for new players to the modded server.

You can find a PDF version of the form here, or if that doesn’t work for you, there’s an alternate .docx version.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask us in Discord or in an email.

The Launch Date for LC Vault Hunters!

We’ve had a solid few weeks of testing the LibraryCraft Vault Hunters modded server, and it’s gone quite well! So well, in fact, that we’ve decided to announce a launch date!

We’re super excited to announce that the LCVH Server will be going live on Friday 23rd June, after school!

For those of you that were whitelisted on the LC Create server, you’ll automatically be whitelisted on the Vault Hunters server! Hooray! Again, this server is for previously whitelisted players aged 13 – 17. There’s a couple of other requirements to be whitelisted on the LCVH server, which you can see at the LC Vault Hunters page of the website.

Release Dates

The new Terms of Use form will be available on Friday 16th June. This is so the new players can apply to be a part of it and be ready to go.

The instructions for download will be released on the LC website on Wednesday 21st June.

The LC Vault Hunters server will be available for play after school on Friday 23rd June!

If you have any questions about the LC Vault Hunters server, please get in touch with us on Discord, or via an email to whitelist@librarycraft.net.

Get excited!

May Small Build Competition Results

It’s been a busy few weeks for everyone recently, with exams and other commitments, so true to the name, this competition theme was pretty small, with only 3 entries! Time to announce the winners for April’s Food competition.

On to the results!

1st Place: RubyBird12

Notching up a second win, Ruby has created some very cute kittens! I really liked these – so adorable! Well done Ruby!

2nd Place: ItsLittle_

Little did a bit of a combination of things – a tiny settlement with a tree farm, and some pixel art! Well done Little!

3rd Place: TheGOATED

Lastly, TheGOATED went super minimalistic with a tiny house containing a bed and enderchest! A clever interpretation of the theme!

Well done to our three winners!

Current Leaderboard

Including the May results, here’s what the leaderboard looks like, taking into account the vote counts for those that are tied. Ruby shoots to the top with this win! It just goes to show how important entering each month is!

  • RubyBird12 – 35 pts
  • Strawfolk – 25 pts
  • toothless_spy – 25 pts
  • RatherQuenched – 20 pts
  • Noodles257 – 15 pts
  • ItsLittle_ – 10 pts
  • LordSquid_ – 5 pts
  • GalaxyOcean – 5 pts
  • TheGOATED – 5 pts

We’ve got one month left in this season – make it count!

Prize Collection

To make things a little easier on me, a Competition Prize Collection Point has been set up in 119Survival! Instead of prizes being deposited at bases, they’ll all be left at a central prize collection point at my 119Survival Base. There’s a public pwarp – JohnsanGeezo.CompCollectionPoint – that will have protected chests for each player that won a prize – podium OR honourable mention.

I’ve tweaked it a little again, with redstone lamps and a lever at each spot. Once you have collected your prize, please turn the light off. The redstone torches indicate that you have a previous prize to collect.

Please make sure you collect your items quickly, or you will risk losing them!

When is LibraryCraft getting 1.20?

As you should all know by now, Minecraft Java Edition has been updated to version 1.20! Known as the Trails & Tales update, we get some pretty cool new additions:

  • Hanging signs
  • Bamboo wood
  • a Raft
  • Chiselled bookshelves
  • Suspicious sand
  • the Cherry blossom biome
  • Pots & archaeology
  • The camel and the sniffer
  • plus the armour trims!

Click the image to check out Mojang’s post on it!

It’s all very exciting, and we’re really looking forward to being able to play it in the servers, but you’ll need to be a little more patient. While it’s released to the general public it takes a while for us to get it. Here’s what has to happen before we get it. We have to wait for our server versions to be updated, plus a bunch of other stuff, and it has to be in a particular order.

  1. General release to Vanilla
  2. Bukkit developers update Bukkit with 1.20. Bukkit is the program that lets us use the extra plugins.
  3. Once it’s stable (a few weeks at least) it goes to Spigot, a better version of Bukkit. Spigot developers update Spigot with 1.20.
  4. Once Spigot is stable (more time again), it goes to Paper, an even better version of Spigot. Same thing…
  5. At the same time, all the Spigot plugin developerss get their plugins updated and compatible with 1.20. Some do this, some don’t need to.
  6. We have to wait until at least our major plugins work before doing anything.
  7. While all that is happening, the Builder team and the mod team are busy preparing the 120Survival spawn area for players.
  8. Once the required plugins are sorted, then I can update the server.
  9. So the server is updated! Hooray! I spin up 120Survival and most likely remove everyone from the whitelist except me so I can preload the new overworld and nether, set up the required permissions and the worldborders. The preloads are very important as it means a much better performance for everyone. The hardest thing for a server to do is generate land as we explore. The preload basically does that all at once.
  10. Once we’ve tested and sorted everything out with that world, then the whitelist goes back and we do a little more testing on alternate accounts.
  11. Once that’s tested and seems to be ok then I fix the gates on the Ship and after some final tests, we’re good to go.

In amongst all that is a lot of testing, long hours and responding to the relentless excitement from you lot of “JOHN WHEN IS IT GONNA BE READY!?” It’s all good, but as I’ll say now, go easy on us. I want to play on 120Survival as much as you all do. It just takes a LOT of time and a LOT of work to get there.

We’re working hard on it, but we don’t have a date of when it will be ready. You just have to be patient.

June’s Player of the Month is…

It’s June! Half way through the year, end of financial year is coming. Here is June’s Player of the Month! We had just the one nomination this month.

If you’d like to nominate someone for Player of the Month, you’ll find the link to the form in the menu option at the top of the site. On to the winner!

Congratulations to ToastTheFroggy_! Commonly known as Frilly, they will get a special rank in the server for a month, with [POTM] visible after their username and two Mega Crate keys to spend in 119Survival. It’s the second time for Frilly too! Well done!

Here’s the nomination text:

Frilly is one of my favourite people. They’re so cool. She’s been my friend for over two years now and she’s very nice and funny. They deserve player of the month because they’re just that good.

Nominations are now open for next month!
