We’re updating to 1.17.1!

Ok, the plugins are pretty much ready to go, it’s time to schedule this update to 1.17.1! There’s a few things to do, so it will happen in stages over the next week or so. Here’s what has already happened!

  1. The new Trade Hall on NewSurvival Trade Island has been built and set up! At the moment this is still empty. Once the shop systems have been swapped over, the Trade Hall will be open for business. Thanks to the awesome crew of players for building this. It looks incredible!
  2. The Richest Players list has been removed
  3. Referral Bonuses, more /sethomes and player heads have been changed from in game currency to diamonds.

Here’s what still needs to happen:

  1. The current ChestShop and /shop plugins will be removed.
  2. The Diamond Bank and Shopkeepers will be installed and set up for use.
  3. Posters will be created to help players with the new systems.
  4. All existing balances will be wiped.
  5. Plugins and datapacks will be updated and tested.
  6. The NewSurvival worldborder will be expanded from 5000 sq blocks to 7500 sq blocks.
  7. The new area will be preloaded to reduce lag.

The easy stuff like posters will happen Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th August, and I’ll be slowly updating the plugins as well. Without the main 1.17.1 update though, players shouldn’t notice a difference. It’s when I start swapping the economy systems over – then you should notice a bit of a difference.

Changing the economy systems over means that other things will be impacted too – mainly buying plots in competitions, and post office plots too. This needs to change from the currency costs to diamonds. I’ll be doing a bit of testing first (probably Thursday 12th and Friday 13th), now that the plugin is ready. Once I’m happy with it, I’ll wipe the balances, swap out the economy systems and I’ll send a message to everyone with what needs to happen. This will probably happen on Monday 16th.

After that’s bedded in, the big stuff will happen – firstly, the whitelist will be temporarily cleared, so only I can access it. This will all happen during school hours, so it shouldn’t impact many. The server will be updated to 1.17.1, I’ll test the plugins again, then I’ll expand NewSurvival, preload it, then re-add the whitelist and away we go! The new adminshops with the 1.17.1 gear that can’t be obtained naturally will also be added. I’m guessing this will happen on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th.

If you’re wondering why remove the whitelist, it’s so I can control the test environment. It’s also mainly for the preload – when this is happening, it takes the sole focus of the server, so players will feel some lag. It’s usually done after a few hours.

As you can tell, there’s a fair bit to do, and I want to thank you all for being so patient while we wait just a little bit longer. To sum up those dates:

Wednesday 11th August: Posters and Plugins
Thursday 12th: Plugins and economy changeover testing
Friday 13th: Economy changeover testing
Monday 16th: Economy Changeover
Wednesday 18th: 1.17.1 Update, NewSurvival Expansion
Thursday 19th: 1.17.1 Admin Shops

All things going well, that’s the plan. Hopefully things don’t change again!

Caves & Cliffs Update and A New Economy

As some of you may know, on Thursday Mojang released the latest snapshot for 1.17 development. Given the size of 1.17, they’ve decided to change a few things up and split 1.17 into two releases.

The Summer Update focuses on blocks and mobs, and then the Holiday release for World Generation. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere is around September. There will be updates to our plugins during that time so we will get the blocks, but they won’t automatically generate in the game. Some will – like amethysts and copper, but the rest will only be available in Creative Mode. Mobs that we’ve seen in snapshots already will appear though.

Because the world generation won’t happen until at least the start of 2022 for us (we need to wait for plugin updates to happen first, which take some time), we won’t add a new world just yet. OldSurvival and NewSurvival will stay for the time being.

As the Survival worlds are preloaded with a worldborder, all of the explorable land has been explored, so nothing new will spawn in the current worldborder of 5k x 5k, so we’ll be expanding the NewSurvival worldborder to 7.5k x 7.5k. If you want those new items, you’re going to need to go exploring in the new areas!

For the other items that won’t naturally spawn, they’ll be available in an AdminShop, for a price of diamonds. When Update 2 comes out and is available for us in 2022, OldSurvival will go, NewSurvival will become 116Survival, and 117Survival will appear, in all it’s worldgen glory! Speaking of those AdminShops…

LC Economy 2.0

We’ve noticed over the last year that our economy has stagnated. Balances are being collected in order to be the richest, some shops are asking for payment in diamonds or emeralds, shops are mostly empty (save 2 or 3), or prices are exorbitant. There’s a solution that the Mods and I have come up with.

We’re planning on using two new plugins: The Diamond Bank and Shopkeepers. The Diamond Bank allows for storage of diamonds in a digital vault. Holding diamonds in your hand, enter /deposit and they’ll be safely stored away. Entering /withdraw will get them out. Shopkeepers uses villagers with custom selling interfaces – much like what you see already, but players can add the items they want to sell, for either an amount of diamonds, or to trade. They work really well, and shopkeepers are also able to be changed to different mobs. Check the Shopkeepers link above to see it in action.

Anyway, here’s what we’re proposing. There’s two choices. To vote, log in to the server and cast your vote by selecting Option 1 or 2.

Option 1

When we get 1.17 Update 1 in September, we:

  • remove the current /shop system (we’re not really using it anyway, except to get more money)
  • remove ChestShops.
  • Current /balances will be wiped and removed.
  • Add The Diamond Bank and Shopkeepers as the primary shop systems. These would be used on both OldSurvival and NewSurvival.
  • Competition plots would become free
  • Competition prizes would become diamonds, not money
  • Heads would be free to purchase, except player heads, that will cost diamonds.
  • Players would buy a special villager egg worth a diamond block for use in their shops.
  • AdminShop Villagers would be available to purchase the 1.17 items that do not naturally spawn, for diamonds.

Option 2

We do the same thing (without the AdminShop Villagers) when 1.17 Update 2 comes out in 2022.

So – the choices are we change to the new system in September (Option 1), or January 2022 (Option 2).

We think this will revitalise the economy system and make mining for diamonds all the more crucial! Diamond trading works extremely well on other servers, without the need for complicated economy systems. Diamonds are also much more versatile in the game! We think this’ll be an awesome change. It might take some getting used to, but we can do it!

A Minor Update

During the week Minecraft was updated to 1.16.2, which unfortunately means waiting for our server to update again, before Bedrock users can connect. Java players are all good, but Bedrock users will need to wait a little longer! We’re anticipating it will be done in the next few days – as soon as it’s ready, we’ll get it sorted and put a new message up here!

Sorry for the inconvenience! If you want to connect straight away, get yourself sorted with a Java account and get in contact with the team. Also, stay in touch with up to date information on the LibraryCraft Discord.

Welcome to 1.16!

That’s right! The update process is complete and the server is once again open for business!

The Nether Gate has had a bit of an upgrade and now connects to the new 1.16 Nether. It’s spooky but colourful at the same time.

Being a new update, and a large one, there are bound to be a few things here and there that may cause issues, be buggy or just not right. Please report them to a moderator and they can hopefully be sorted out. This is still a work in progress so there may be a bit more downtime needed to sort out the issues that arise from lots of players logging in, but we’ll see how we go!

Bedrock players are also able to connect again, which is great! We’ve got a lot of new players that haven’t logged in before, so we’re looking forward to seeing them in game soon.

If there are any issues with connecting, especially for Bedrock users, please reach out at librarycraft@fremantle.wa.gov.au and we’ll see what we can do!

Bring on the new Nether!

Why can’t I connect?

You’ll probably notice over the next few days that the server is unavailable – you may see it offline, or you may appear to be unwhitelisted.

Fear not! This is just all part of the process of getting LibraryCraft updated and ready for 1.16.1. There’s a bit to do, so please be patient with us! We’re going as fast as we can. If you want speedy updates, head to our Discord server for all the latest information!

LibraryCraft is now on Bedrock Edition!

Huge news! Thanks to an incredible (and very new) plugin, we’re now able to allow Bedrock users to connect to the LibraryCraft server.

If you play on iOS, Android, Windows 10, Xbox or Nintendo Switch, you can be on the same server as the Java players. Unfortunately if you’re on a PlayStation you won’t be able to connect due to the way our whitelist works.

There’s a few important differences when you’re in game on Bedrock – some features won’t work or won’t display properly. These are all outlined in the Bedrock Edition Differences page. If you want the full LibraryCraft experience, get yourself a copy of Java Edition and let us know! We’re also able to link Java and Bedrock accounts together, so you can get access to your Java account through Bedrock.

Importantly, this is very new and still being worked on. Some functions may not work as intended, but they’re being investigated by the plugin developers. There’s sure to be improvements in the future.

If you have questions, reach out to us, and if you’ve got friends that have wanted to connect but couldn’t, now they might be able to!

LibraryCraft SkyBlock is Here!

SkyBlock has been added to LibraryCraft – now you can play one of the most popular minigames in Minecraft! Not sure what SkyBlock is? Check out this video. It’s a little different in the video to our version, but the important things are the same.

To get to the SkyBlock world, use the Warp Ship – a new gate has been added right at the end. When you get to the SkyBlock world, you’ll see some instructions in a holographic display. Everyone will get their own separate island. To get your own island, use:

/island OR /is

The following screen will appear:

There are three island options, easy, a double island, and a hard island. If you’ve never played SkyBlock before, I’d suggest sticking with the easy or double one. If you choose the standard island, here’s what you get.

Your island will have a cow, a tree, a chest with stuff, and an island made of dirt and stone. From there, expand your island and make more things! There’s loads of challenges to complete.

Here’s a bunch of commands you’ll need to know.

CommandDescription
/island OR /is– Main Island command
– teleports you to your island
/is ban <player>Bans a player from your island
/is unban <player>Unbans a player from your island
/is banlistLists banned players on your island
/is challengesShows the Challenges list
/is infoShows information about an island
/is level <player>Shows your island level, or the level of <player>
/is setnameSet a name for your island
/is settingsDisplay your island’s settings (what team members an visitors can and cannot do)
/is teamManage your island’s team
/is team inviteInvite a player to join your island
/is team acceptAccept an invitation
/is team kickRemove a player from your island
/is team promotePromote a player on your island up a rank
/is team demoteDemote a player on your island down a rank
/is topShow the top 10 islands
/is likesLike or unlike an island, and check your own likes.

Nether and End Islands

Yes, your Survival Islands also have their own matching Nether and End islands! Unfortunately the server settings mean that a Nether portal isn’t able to be made traditionally.

When you can prove to a moderator that you have the ability to create a Nether portal (10 obsidian and a flint and steel), send JohnsanGeezo a /mail and he will bring you over. The Nether Island also has an End gate. When you are given access to your Nether Island, JohnsanGeezo will also take your 10 obsidian off you.

If you have questions about SkyBlock, just ask!

Economy System 2.0

Ever wanted to be able to buy some of those rarer items in the game? Now you can! The Mod team have improved the Economy System with a brand new Server Shop.

In addition to player stores, where player to player buying and selling occurs, you can now use your hard earned in-game cash to trade directly with the server itself.

To get access to the server shop, type /shop. (It will come up with /shop [section], but just leave it as /shop and it will work). The image above shows what will appear. The server shop is split up into sections (from left to right, top to bottom):

  • Ores
  • Music
  • Blocks
  • Farming
  • Mobs (drops, not the mobs themselves)
  • Enchanting
  • Colours
  • Other
  • Food
  • Decorations
  • Redstone
  • Potions

Click on one and the selections will appear.

Some are cheap, some not so much! If the buy and sell options are $0, it means they’re not available.

When an item is selected, you’ll see the following screen:

There’s currently one grass block that will be sold. To add more, use the glass panes to the right for +1, +16 or +32. To check your balance, hover over your player head in the bottom left corner.

When you’re happy with your amount, click the map at the top to buy them. They’ll appear in your inventory!

How can I make more money?

Great question – you can make more money by creating a shop in the Trade Hall yourself, by winning a match in Spleef or PVP, or by winning one of our Monthly Build Competitions!

As of right now, a Spleef or PVP win will reward you with $100. You can find out more about the Monthly Build Competition rewards on the Competition Page.
