School Holiday Pairs Creative Competition

As some of you may be aware, we’re in the process of migrating the current server over to a Bungeecord network – essentially, it’s three servers networked together. Players will only see one server when they log in, but it’ll be three sharing the load. Each will be responsible for a major aspect of the server – Survival, Creative and Minigames. It’ll mean we’re able to give a better experience for players, and will give us more room to expand. It’s a lot of work, but it’s very exciting! We’re almost there, but there’s a few final things to do.

Let’s talk School Holidays though. As we’ll hopefully be only just on the new LibraryCraft Network (the LCN) we’ve decided to not run a BedWars tournament this school holidays. This is so we can properly assess how the LCN is performing, without putting a potentially massive load on it when we absolutely need to depend on it. We’d rather see how it goes in regular play first.

We’re not leaving you with nothing though! What we’ll be doing during the entire school holidays is something a lot of you have been asking for – a Pairs Creative Build Competition. Here’s the information you need to know.

When: Saturday 25th September to Sunday 10th October 9pm
Theme: Free Build – build whatever you like!
Prizes: 1x $50 JB HiFi Voucher per winning player (plus diamonds for the top three teams – amount still to be decided).
No more than two (2) players per team.

Sort out your teams now so you’re ready for it. This is going to be fun! When you have your partnership locked in, please get in touch with JohnsanGeezo in game or in Discord to confirm them. Players won’t be able to add members to plots, but John can do it for you.

August Farm Competition Results

To celebrate National Science Week’s 2021 theme of Food: Different by Design, we’ve been watching our players build their best farms on plots twice the size as normal, and wow, they certainly delivered.

We also offered up some bonus prizes this month:
1st Place: 1x Sphero SPRK+
2nd Place: 1x LEGO Minecraft 21170 The Pig House
3rd Place: 1x LEGO 40385 Trophy

Here are the winners!

1st Place: crazycollie

This is pretty big. Not just the plots, but the win for crazycollie! Aside from a stunning build that has so much detail, this build secures collie’s place as an official Builder in the server with four wins in the competitions. Unfortunately this means that collie won’t be able to enter the competitions any more, but it does mean an official rank and role in the server, and bigger builds to come! Congrats crazycollie!

2nd Place: Doobiewinkle

Doobiewinkle went with Ancient Rome as an overall theme of the build, and his storytelling just shines through. It’s so cool to check out.

3rd Place: __B4C0N

I really liked the layout of this build, with the barn at the top of the hill, overlooking the lake. Very well done!

Honourable Mentions

We have three honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the top three.

September Creative Competition – Enchanted Garden

We’ve had some exciting and big builds happening for August, and we’re looking forward to checking them out properly when we judge, but it’s on to September!

Enchanted Garden should be fun, as it allows you to make use of those beautiful new blocks that have appeared since we’ve updated to 1.17.1!

Rules

  • All building is in Creative Mode
  • Builders must use ONE plot only
  • All building must be done on the September Comp Map
  • Designs must be your own
  • Single player entries only – no team builds

Judging will happen during the first week of October.

As per normal, the September Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the August gate which will close to building at 9pm on Tuesday August 31st.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of September 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build. Players Choice votes will also be open as usual.

July WA Landmarks Competition Results

Last month’s build competition was really exciting – seeing some real world locations in WA come to life in LibraryCraft. The players definitely delivered, creating some truly incredible builds. On to the results!

1st Place: __B4C0N

__B4C0N’s first win! Painstakingly recreating the Perth Mint, the sandstone and red brick texture looks excellent in this build. There’s also plenty of detail inside. Well done Bacon!

2nd Place: Doobiewinkle

Doobiewinkle (Countdodododo for those of you that are struggling to keep up with the name changes 😉 ) went with the Perth Belltower, and it looks fantastic! There’s plenty of detail inside, with the bellringer’s room and the bells included as well.

3rd Place: crazycollie

Being in Freo every day, this one is just brilliant. Dingo Flour looks spectacular! Well done crazycollie.

Honourable Mentions

We have three honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the top three.

_pluto_9 – Crawley Boat Shed

DexterouzDingo – Fishing Boat Harbour, Fremantle

Strider_06 – Bathurst Lighthouse, Rottnest

A huge congratulations to all of our entrants! The quality this month was exceptional. We’ll look at incorporating these builds into a Survival world in the very near future. It doesn’t feel right to just clear it out and start again!

June & Emerald Points Season 1 2021 Results

And that’s a wrap on the end of Season 1, 2021! The June competition is complete, the votes are in and have been tallied, so here are the results.

We had some brilliant entries this month, when we asked you to build something Nether related. On to the results.

1st Place: _pluto_9

Pluto gets a win! Creating a spooky but beautiful looking Nether portal representing a sword hilt, with the different biomes of the Nether scattered around.

2nd Place: crazycollie

This time around Collie has built some floating islands with some of the new Nether biomes, a house, and a fantastic looking portal in the centre.

3rd Place: W1indfall

Going tall, W1indfall (formerly _B4C0N and all the other names) has built a stunning spiral tower/cloud/monster? with some excellent use of light in the centre. This looks super imposing and eye catching. Well done!

Honourable Mentions

We have five honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the podium finish.

August Creative Competition – Farm

July’s WA Landmarks competition has only just begun, and the builds are looking excellent, but I want to get everyone excited for what is next. August means National Science Week, and as we did last year, the August competition is bigger than most.

In August we’re celebrating National Science Week’s 2021 theme of Food: Different by Design, so we’re asking you to build your best Farm. (Thanks to Keralis from HermitCraft S7 for the unbelievable build above!)

We have changed the plot sizes for this competition, with big 104×50 sized plots. (Don’t ask about the extra 4…)

Here’s the rules, with some extra ones!

Rules

  • All building is in Creative Mode
  • Builders must use ONE plot only
  • All building must be done on the August Comp Map
  • Designs must be your own
  • Single player entries only – no team builds
  • Farms can be animals or crops

Each base MUST include:

  • Farms need to be carbon neutral. Generation of power can be by water wheel, wind turbine, solar panels etc. Anything carbon neutral.
  • Farms need to show evidence of
    • Irrigation
    • Harvesting
    • Storage
    • Transport of resources in and out (roads, gates etc)
    • Homestead/living (can be partial, or a facade if need be)

Judging will happen during the first week of September.

As per normal, the August Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the July gate which will close to building at 9pm on Saturday July 31st.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of August 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build. Players Choice votes will also be open as usual.

Prizes

The top three designs will win an extra special prize, just for August! Regular Emerald Points prizes will be given out as usual, along with diamond blocks.

1st Place: 1x Sphero SPRK+
2nd Place: 1x LEGO Minecraft 21170 The Pig House*
3rd Place: 1x LEGO 40385 Trophy

*Please note that the LEGO Minecraft set has been opened once to be built for review on bricktasticblog.com, before being broken down and bagged. All parts including spares are included.

Who’s excited? We are!

Everything you need to know about the July BedWars Tournament

It’s almost time for the School Holiday BedWars Tournaments! Registrations are now open for the July School Holiday Tournament. Read on for all the info!

All matches (including the Grand Finals) will be a double elimination knockout. You must lose twice in order to be out of the competition. If you lose once, you can still come back and win the whole thing. All matches will be played on a brand new map – Castle, and there will be no grace periods – the match will play as default.

This time we are running two Solo tournaments each running over a week:

5th to 11th July
12th to 18th July

Registrations close at 9pm on Saturday July 3rd, and the brackets will be created and available on Sunday July 4th.

It is up to the players to schedule their matches during the week, and report back to LightKLibrary, preferably through Discord in #tournaments, or using in-game mail if you do not have Discord access.

Something that is crucial at this time of year – talk to your parents about your availabilities during the week. It’s the Easter school holidays. If you have something on, you need to find out so you are aware. You need to be available to play, or it inconveniences the rest of the players, and the organisers.

You need to mail LightKLibrary in game to register.

Please select the week you wish to compete in by saying Week 1 or Week 2. Also indicate if you would be interested in playing in the other tournament as well. You may be added as a player or as a substitute.

Forfeiting

If you cannot make your match during the allocated dates, you will forfeit the match. Report it as soon as you know. Don’t leave it until the last minute! It’s a lot of work to organise tournaments, and last minute forfeits can be annoying.

Once a new match has been confirmed and the players have been tagged/messaged in game/Discord, you have 24 hours to PLAY the match, or it will be deemed a forfeit. The player that is causing the delay will be the player that forfeits. If this can’t be determined, it will be a 50/50 decision by the Mod Team.

FAQ

What should I report to Kirsty?
1. Report if you are unable to schedule a match during the allocated week.
2. Both players must report the results after the match, in either Discord (#tournaments) or using in-game mail.

Kirsty will then update the bracket, so the next match can be scheduled.

Can I report to JohnsanGeezo?
Nope, to lighten the load on us, we’re taking it in turns. This time it’s Kirsty’s turn to run the tournament.

Are you sure we can’t delay the matches we can’t play to a different week?
Yes. You must complete your matches in the tournament week. This is so results and prizes can be finalised in a timely fashion, and stops a lot of confusion.

Can we use a different map, like Arena or Forest?
No, all matches must be played on Forest, so it’s fair for everyone.

Can we have longer grace periods before PvP starts?
No, the default game settings must be used. All matches must be played fair and according to the rules. If exploits or cheats are seen to be used, the player using them will instantly forfeit the match, and the player will be placed in jail according to server rules.

Can another player (registered or not registered) play instead?
Yes! This time around we’re having a substitutes list. The first 32 players to register will be in the tournament proper (16 for each tournament). Any registrations before the close date will go on the Substitutes list. Any late registrations (between the close date and tournament start) will also be on the Substitutes list.

You MUST be available to play during that week at short notice if you are a substitute.

Ok, what are the brackets?
They’re not made yet – you need to register first!

Good luck!

July Build Competition – WA Landmarks

We’re currently in the final month of the Emerald Points Competition Season 1, and players are hard at work building their Nether themed builds. It’s looking amazing, but it’s about time we start talking about Season 2! We’re doing something a little different, and asking for WA Landmarks.

Here’s the rules, and there are a few extra ones.

Rules

  • Builds MUST be from Western Australia
  • Landmarks can be natural or man made
  • A sign must be placed at the front of the build, telling us what it is (even if it’s obvious)
  • All building must be in Creative Mode
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • All entries must be built on the July Comp world
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online!

Judging will take place during the first week of August 2021. The July Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the June gate which will close to building at 9pm on Wednesday June 30th.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of July 1st.

We’ve also got a big one planned for August, to celebrate National Science Week again, with some extra prizes! Stay tuned!

May Library Competition – Results

May’s Library competition has been shelved (get it?) , our awesome mods and judges have submitted their votes, so here’s the results, plus the honourable mentions! We had a really hard time picking the winners this month – all feedback from the moderators was that the entries were next level! You should all be really proud.

1st Place: crazycollie

In true Collie fashion, we’ve got an absolutely breathtaking Hogwarts inspired library, filled to the brim with plenty of Harry Potter books and details. This is beautiful and was amazing to walk through. Well done Collie!

2nd Place: _pluto_9

Coming in second place for the second month in a row, Pluto has created a stunning quartz and glazed terracotta build with a difference. The design here is very eye catching, and is a very grand entrance leading up to the library in the back.

3rd Place: bforkcan

Formerly known as B4C0N and (confusingly) SpeedCat995, bforkcan has gone for a more rugged stone look with this build, reminiscent of a traditional library. It’s really well thought out! A very nice use of the poster sign too. 🙂

Honourable Mentions

A whopping six other builders also scored votes but didn’t quite get across the line. This just shows the quality of builds we had this month!

Kursed7280084

Countdodododo

I have to say as a librarian, this concept of Count’s was great – a VR library. Hold a book and walk through a portal to check out the story in virtual reality! I wish this was a thing…

Congratulations to all our winners and honourable mentions! The winnings will be sent out soon. Speaking of winnings, given the economy system will be changing very soon, the in-game prizes for our top three builders from this point on will be diamond blocks! 3 for first place, 2 for second and 1 for third.

Bring on the Nether and the final competition for the season!

  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • All entries must be built on the June Comp world
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online!

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of June 1st.
