Evaluation Feedback 2024

A few months ago we asked for our regular yearly feedback, with the understanding that it would form part of a social impact survey. It covered all aspects of the server – Survival, Creative worlds and competitions, and Minigames – plus Discord, real life meetups, workshops and more. We got some brilliant feedback from a record amount of people, so thank you very much!

Over the last week we’ve been discussing the feedback as a mod team and went through each and every one of your responses, to see how many we could make a reality! Some we’ll be implementing soon, some we won’t be implementing, some we’ve made some changes to and others we need your feedback on.

There’s a bit of reading with this one as we had so much feedback, but it’s all worth it. If you have more information or ideas, please get in touch either in Discord, through an email to whitelist@librarycraft.net, or in game with a mail! The Discord feedback won’t be listed on the website, but on Discord only.

The feedback will be paraphrased where possible in bold, with some of our feedback or questions to you below!

First up, feedback we’d like some more information on!

Update to the BedWars Plugin – it needs more items

Let’s start with an easy one – what items do we consider are missing? This isn’t a plugin update, but a few configuration changes if need be. Depending on the items and plugin limitations, not every suggestion will be added, but we’d like to let you know what you think! If items are added, they’ll be added after LibraryCraft League is done, to make it fair.

Server wide events and games in Survival / More competitions that aren’t building/Creative related

These are a popular thing to do but they do take a fair amount of time to set up! Things like the Head Games, the HermitCraft Scavenger Hunt, treasure hunts etc take a while to prepare, but we’d love to do more. Please suggest some ideas and we’ll see what we can do! What sort of events would you like to see?

Parkour Battle Arena

Not a lot of information with this one! Let us know what you mean, or what you think it means!

Small areas for the community like the Trade Hall, but just for players to live or hang around

We’re happy to bring more things into the main Survival server, but we’d like to know what you want! Give us some examples of builds or concepts you’d like to see and we’ll see what we can do.

More minigames / another minigame

Most minigames servers have a server per minigame, as minigames can be quite resource hungry. We’ve got one server for five minigames, which is a lot. If we were to add something new, one would most likely have to go, and it’s a lot of work for John to get set up to play. We’re also not keen on having minigames that are too similar to another option already in game, and the plugin we use must be up to date and well supported. We’ve had a suggestion of TNT Tag, so we’ll look into that.

More meetups and more BedWars Maps

More meetups are tricky – during term, time is limited for everyone, so school holidays are generally better, but we don’t want to overload you with school holiday options either!

In terms of BedWars maps, we can do, but we’d rather you guys design them rather than us just drop a premade map in!

An area for suggesting new ideas

Well, we’ve got tickets in Discord and /mail in game, so we’d like to think those are available for suggesting new ideas, but we’re happy to see what we can come up with in game if people think it’s a good idea.

Something that makes it easier to older players to get back in, more times when the Survival world resets, or just add a new one

This one was interesting. We’re not sure survival world resets outside of the regular major version reset is needed, as we can’t control when people do or don’t log in, and how long between sessions they take. We would like everyone’s thoughts on this though – is there something that would help players we’ve not seen for a while get back in?

More in person events, but with a theme, like the ISS Workshop a couple of years ago

We’d love to do more workshops, but they do take a lot of planning! We’d also like to know what topics players would want to see. Let us know!

Next up are the options we can’t or won’t be doing. It’s a shame, but we’ve got to set limits somewhere.

PVP Survival

While this was suggested by four players and we’ve done this many times before, each and every time we’ve run a PVP Survival option, it’s not worked. It’s ended up leaving players angry at each other, not understanding the clear rules, and not as much interest in it after a short amount of time. Some of the reactions that come from the PVP rule breaks then break the main LC rules, which just lands people in jail. It’s a lot more work for the mods to look after. PVP Survival won’t be coming back.

Voice chat in game

Unfortunately this one isn’t possible with plugins in our system. There is an option that works in game but utilises Discord, so it can’t work for everyone.

Development of a new program where people can volunteer to build certain structures at spawn, or if a renovation is needed for a structure, players are able to contribute ideas

We’re always open to ideas for structures – just let us know! Building Spawn areas is reserved for players with Builder Rank. If you’d like to contribute to building the Spawn area, all you need to do is win three creative competitions to get Builder Rank, and stay active as a Builder!

Brackets for building competitions – people that play a lot, vs people that don’t

This will just overly complicate things – We can’t control who plays or doesn’t and brackets would just overly complicate things.

Bring back Bedrock connectivity

Only 1% of players were on Bedrock and it needed more workarounds for compatibility that made more uneccessary work for John.

Daily Crates reset after midnight, not just after 24 hours

Unfortunately this is one we can’t control. It’s a hardcoded 24 hours – not something we can change!

Secret Life, like Hermitcraft

While it would be awesome, we’d need to set up another server to do it, plus it just wouldn’t work with our playerbase. The reason the Life series works so well is because they’re adults that all agree on a specific time to play. Nobody gets an advantage by grinding all day, or by getting on when nobody else is on. There’s always action and a common understanding without having to claim land. It’s just not possible with our playerbase.

A mod (librarian) in every library in Perth, because there will be librarians at every library that can help you on the server if you’re having a problem.

While we’d absolutely LOVE this, it’s just not possible. As far as we can tell (and we’ve asked a lot!), John is the only library staff member in WA that has the amount of knowledge needed about LibraryCraft (and running servers in general), and the time to do it! Add in the willingness to do it outside of hours, plus there’s a couple of hundred libraries in WA, it’s just not doable.

A way to download the old worlds somehow

This is one that’s very popular, but it’s a low priority. The world files are multiple gigabytes, so it would be a huge download, plus finding the place to host it for free is not easy. We’re working on it, but we’ve got competing priorities.

That’s it! Let us know if you’ve got feedback! We’ll also bring it in to Discord for more chat too.
