We’re updating to 1.21!

That’s correct! Thank you all so very much for waiting so patiently, we’re pretty much good to go on finally updating LibraryCraft to 1.21! The plugins are ready (with a few changes having to come in the background) plus 121Spawn almost read to go, but all things going well, 1.21 will be coming to the server in just over a week, ideally being ready for play on the 19th September! Just in time for school holidays.

To make this work, the server will be unavailable for play, likely for a few days, from Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th August. It’s longer than we’ve had before, but we’ve got some work to do! The actual updates, world uploads and preloads, testing, plugins set up and more testing. Hopefully we’re quicker a little faster, but that’s what we’ve decided so far.

What will change?

  • Obviously, we’ve got 121Survival! It’s a brand new world, with a brand new inventory. This time around we’ve gone with a sprawling Amsterdam spawn area. It takes up a large space, but all of the important stuff is close by, after some valuable feedback from players. A huge thanks to Meowlicky, CopperJay, Nemo and JohnsanGeezo for putting this together. It’s looking like one of the best spawn areas yet!
  • You will not be able to transfer items over from 120Survival. Like normal, the world will be completely separate.
  • 120Survival will still be available, but play will most likely be all on 121Survival. 119Survival, Skyland and OldSurvival will be backed up and removed.
  • 1.21Survival won’t appear on Dynmap for a few weeks, to encourage natural exploration.
  • The map will most likely be around 10000×10000, the same as 120Survival.
  • The Nether and the End will be blocked from access for a week or two at the start, to discourage people from speedrunning. Take your time! It’s a long season.
  • Public Nether and End gates will not appear in the spawn area straight away. These will come in the first few weeks. These will be housed in separate buildings right at Spawn.
  • The /gwarp 120Spawn will be removed and replaced with /gwarp 121Spawn. If you want to go to 1.20 Spawn, you’ll need to use the gate at the Warp Ship.
  • Claims will still exist in 120Survival, however if you need more claim blocks, you can either play more (as you earn more blocks the more you play), or unclaim some land in 120Survival.
    • As was the rule in all our previous Survival worlds, you are NOT allowed to claim areas of land to reserve resources for collection later. Claims are for builds only.
    • You are also not allowed to claim any villages, Trial Chambers or Ancient Cities. These are for everyone to enjoy.
  • We will be protecting the trial chambers closer to spawn, to stop people destroying them in order to get the new copper and tuff blocks. We’re still figuring out the final rules for the trial chambers, so more info to come on them. One thing we do know is that you will not be allowed to destroy the trial spawners at all. Leave them there so players can redo the trial chambers.

Remember, if you find yourself unwhitelisted from the 16th, don’t panic! Just be patient, and check the website, and Discord if you have it. Bring on 1.21 and all the new stuff!

September’s Player of the Month is…

We missed it last month, so let’s get back into choosing a new Player of the Month.

If you’d like to nominate someone for Player of the Month, you’ll find the link to the form in the menu option at the top of the site. It can be an act of kindness in the server, politeness, etiquette or something similar. Note that this is only applicable to actions in the server, not in Discord. 

The Player of the Month will get POTM role in both the server and in Discord, plus two Mega Crate keys to use in the server’s current Survival world.

Snake is very awesome, nice and helps loads of people! They always have nice conversations with people and are very helpful! Snake deserves POTM!

They are a fun and playful person to be on the server with, always happy to help out or play games. They really have earned the player of the month award in my eyes.

Rose is always nice and very helpful to everyone, always a good sport in mini games and overall a strong contender for player of the month in my humble opinion

September Creative Competition – Games

Another month down! It’s already getting nearer to the end of the year. It’s just flying by! After a special theme last month, we’re going with Games! We all love playing them, either in the digital form, plus board and card games, so we want to see how you go with building them! Let us know with a sign on the corner of your plot with the name of your game too.

Remember, each month counts in terms of points, plus there’s the Builder Rank Competition too – the GOLD bordered plots are for Builders only – do not claim these if you are not a builder. If you do, we will clear them without warning, regardless of whether there’s builds on it or not.

The September Competition world gate – located in the Creative Lobby – will replace the August gate which will close to building at 9pm on Saturday August 31st.

The gate will open in the Creative Lobby on the morning of September 1st, so get thinking about your build!

A big thanks to Backward_Nemo for the gate build this time around. It’s perfect!

Season 2, 2024 Prizes

As you know, each month we give away the following prizes to regular players:

  • 1st Prize: 4x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 15 Emerald Points

Each month the Emerald Points are tallied up and can be seen in the Emerald Hall on the Survival Lobby world.

At the end of the season (June and December), the grand prizes are awarded to the final top three Emerald Points winners from across the 6 months of competition. This season we’re giving away:

  • 1st Prize: $250 worth of LEGO! It’ll be in the form of a LEGO store voucher, sent online. Nice and easy!

July Books Results

It’s the start of a new season of competition – the leaderboards reset! So who won in July? We went with a library classic – Books, and we got some brilliant entries. You are all so creative!

As always this year, we’ll get to the builder competition after the main competition’s honourable mentions.

Let’s take a look at the results for the main Emerald Points Competition first.

1st Place: ZacWild5

Scoring his first win, Zac opted for a twist on the theme, making “The Greatest Bookshop in the World”. This was a beautifully designed build that is nothing short of spectacular inside! Well done Zac! This was a beauty.

2nd Place: RoseBlossom_

Getting back to back 2nd place, Rose created a double sided build based on All The Light We Cannot See. It’s very well done!

3rd Place: EnderKitty543

Rounding out the top three, EnderKitty opted for a more classic tale, with Rapunzel in her tower. This one looks great!

August Creative Competition – Impossible Creatures

We’re a month into the second half of 2024 already! Where has the time gone? August each year in Australia means National Science Week and for us it’s no different. The schools theme this year is Species Survival – More than just sustainability. According to the NSW website:

The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.

For our August competition we’ve decided to do something inspired by this, with Impossible Creatures. Create a hybrid animal for a specific purpose. An example could be a bowerbird and a shark – it hunts for treasure deep in the ocean!

Remember, each month counts in terms of points, plus there’s the Builder Rank Competition too – the GOLD bordered plots are for Builders only – do not claim these if you are not a builder. If you do, we will clear them without warning, regardless of whether there’s builds on it or not.

June Larger than Life & End of Season 1 Results

So who won in June? We went little, but big in June with Larger than Life. It was good to get back into the full block list and a whole heap of colour with this one, and we got some brilliant builds yet again!

As always this year, we’ll get to the builder competition after the main competition’s honourable mentions. This month wraps up the first season of 2024 competition, so we’ll get to the final season winners at the bottom!

Let’s take a look at the results for the main Emerald Points Competition first.

1st Place: CopperJay

Getting two wins in a row with this beautiful beetle on a leaf, CopperJay now has three wins, which means one thing – CopperJay now gets Builder Rank! Well done CopperJay, you’re just in time to start helping out with getting ready for the next Survival Spawn area.

2nd Place: RoseBlossom_

With a first time scoring votes this season, Rose has gone straight to 2nd place for the month with this beautiful winter scene with giant snowflakes. A very unique build!

3rd Place: RaptorMaster713

Rounding out the top three, RaptorMaster713 went with some giant mushrooms under a cherry blossom tree. These look excellent!

We’re almost through June – the last month in Season 1 of the Emerald Points Competition for 2024, so it’s about time we announce the next month’s competition theme. This theme kicks off Season 2!

In July we’re going with Books. Build us a scene from your favourite book or book series! This one should be awesome.

July School Holiday Social Session

Like last time we’ve had a lot of requests over the term for another social session! We love doing them each holidays, so here’s the information you need for July’s one! We’ll be hanging out together again at Fremantle Library on Tuesday July 9th.

Like last time, this session will have a bit of everything – a few laptops for jumping in game, board games, and just space to hang out! We’ve also got some new LibraryCraft stickers to give away!

Please tell us in a mail or in Discord if you plan on coming so we can get an idea of how many people to expect.

Where: Fremantle Library
When: Tuesday 9th July, 2 – 5pm
Bring: Just yourself! We’ve got the board games and some laptops, but if you have your own laptop ready to go, bring it along.
