January BedWars Tournament Match Ups

We’ve got a full roster of 16 players for the January BedWars Tournament! The tournament will start on Monday 10th January and go until Sunday 16th January 9pm. All matches must be played during these times. It’s up to the players to schedule their matches during that week, and report back to JohnsanGeezo with the results, preferably through Discord in #tournaments, or using in game mail.

All the information you need about the tournament is in the linked post from the other day, but the most important information now is about forfeiting.

If you cannot make your match during the allocated dates, you will forfeit the match. Report it as soon as you know. Don’t leave it until the last minute! It’s a lot of work to organise tournaments, and last minute forfeits can be annoying.

Once a new match has been confirmed and the players have been tagged/messaged in game/Discord, you have 24 hours to PLAY the match, or it will be deemed a forfeit. The player that is causing the delay will be the player that forfeits. If this can’t be determined, it will be a 50/50 decision by the Mod Team.

You can find the match list here, as well as on Discord in the #tournaments channel. It’ll be a pinned post. The match list will be updated after each match result is reported.

Everything you need to know about the January BedWars Tournament

It’s time for a long awaited School Holiday BedWars Tournament! Registrations are now open for the January School Holiday Tournament. Read on for all the info!

All matches (including the Grand Finals) will be a double elimination knockout. You must lose twice in order to be out of the competition. If you lose once, you can still come back and win the whole thing. All matches will be played on the Forest map, and there will be no grace periods – the match will play as default.

This time we are running one Solo tournament over a week:

10th to 16th January

Registrations close at 9pm on Friday January 7th, and the brackets will be created and available by Sunday January 9th.

It is up to the players to schedule their matches during the week, and report back to JohnsanGeezo, preferably through Discord in #tournaments, or using in-game mail if you do not have Discord access.

Something that is crucial at this time of year – talk to your parents about your availabilities during the week. It’s the January school holidays. If you have something on, you need to find out so you are aware. You need to be available to play, or it inconveniences the rest of the players, and the organisers.

You need to mail JohnsanGeezo in game to register.

Forfeiting

If you cannot make your match during the allocated dates, you will forfeit the match. Report it as soon as you know. Don’t leave it until the last minute! It’s a lot of work to organise tournaments, and last minute forfeits can be annoying.

Once a new match has been confirmed and the players have been tagged/messaged in game/Discord, you have 24 hours to PLAY the match, or it will be deemed a forfeit. The player that is causing the delay will be the player that forfeits. If this can’t be determined, it will be a 50/50 decision by the Mod Team.

Prizes

There’ll also be prizes for the winner – a $50 JB HiFi Voucher, plus 2 diamond blocks for the runner up. The final two will also receive a bonus Mega Crate key.

FAQ

What should I report to John?
1. Report if you are unable to schedule a match during the allocated week.
2. Both players must report the results after the match, in either Discord (#tournaments) or using in-game mail.

John will then update the bracket, so the next match can be scheduled.

Can I report to LightKLibrary?
Nope, to lighten the load on us, we’re taking it in turns. This time it’s John’s turn to run the tournament.

Are you sure we can’t delay the matches we can’t play to a different week?
Yes. You must complete your matches in the tournament week. This is so results and prizes can be finalised in a timely fashion, and stops a lot of confusion.

Can we use a different map, like Castle?
No, all matches must be played on Forest, so it’s fair for everyone.

Can we have longer grace periods before PvP starts?
No, the default game settings must be used. All matches must be played fair and according to the rules. If exploits or cheats are seen to be used, the player using them will instantly forfeit the match, and the player will be placed in jail according to server rules.

Can another player (registered or not registered) play instead?
Yes! This time around we’re having a substitutes list. The first 16 players to register will be in the tournament proper. Any registrations before the close date over the initial 16 will go on the Substitutes list. Any late registrations (between the close date and tournament start) will also be on the Substitutes list.

You MUST be available to play during that week at short notice if you are a substitute.

Why 16?
To stop the need for byes and automatic forfeits, it’s either 16 or 32. If we get to 32 we’ll just extend the size of the tournament! It’ll just last longer.

Ok, what are the brackets?
They’re not made yet – you need to register first!

Good luck!

November Hollywood Competition Results

The year is almost over! We’ve got a lot of exciting things to come in the next month or so, with school holidays, a major update and general December busyness, but for now, let’s concentrate on the November results. We went with Hollywood, asking players to recreate a scene from their favourite movie or TV show.

1st Place: _pluto_9

Taking out two months in a row, Pluto has gone for an older film – Stand By Me from 1986. There’s a very exciting train chase scene, and it’s been built here really well! The faces used are excellent. Well done Pluto!

2nd Place: Kursed7280084

Kursed has gone with an iconic film that’s instantly recognisable from 2003 – Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Building the Tower of Orthanc, this is a really imposing build and the surrounding areas look great. It would have been awesome to see this tower even bigger, but it’s a bit hard with a small plot! Well done Kursed.

3rd Place: LOUDCAMEL

Formerly known as CountDoDoDoDo, LOUDCAMEL has gone biblical with his build, from the 1996 animated film The Prince of Egypt. In particular, the 10 Plagues scene. I love how the plagues have been represented! This one was fun to walk around and explore.

Honourable Mention

Just the one honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the top three.

qezti – The Great Wall (2016)

A big congrats to all of our entrants and winners! Your winnings have been added directly to your Diamond Banks – on to the last competition for 2021!

What’s happening with LibraryCraft and Caves & Cliffs Part 2?

As you’ve no doubt aware by now, Minecraft has updated to 1.18 – Caves & Cliffs Part 2! This means all that glorious new world generation, increased height and depth limits, stunning caves, mountains and all the blocks we’ve been enjoying in 1.17 spawning as they should!

What does that mean for LibraryCraft though?

We’re glad you asked…

The biggest changes will be a brand new Survival world – 1.18 Survival! This is pretty huge, as we’ve not had a new world since 1.16 came out back in August 2020. This will also mean that OldSurvival (the 1.15.2 survival world) will be removed from the server, with NewSurvival being renamed to 1.17 Survival.

It’s scary, we know, but it’ll be exciting too. We’re working hard to see if we can have OldSurvival available as a download in the near future, once it’s removed from the Survival server. A few other things will also be making a return – Head Games Season 3, the LC Big Base Swap Round 2 much later (probably closer to the end of 2022), and more.

A few other things will be tweaked too. We’ll be moving away from a centralised Trade Hall, instead using the new pwarps filter feature, so player shops can be at each player’s base instead. This should lead to some really exciting looking shops that aren’t limited by space! It also won’t be necessary to use Diamond Banks, except when using the Daily Crates. That needs an economy system, and we can’t get rid of The Diamond Bank all together.

An important change with that, however, is that you will not be able to withdraw from The Diamond Bank on the 1.18 Survival World. We’re unable to isolate the worlds, so we will be asking that all players withdraw all of their diamonds before we update. This is your chance to build a fancy vault in your current NewSurvival Base to store your glorious blues. This is still a bit of a work in progress, but for now, empty your banks.

That’s great, but when does LC update?

There’s a fair bit that has to happen before we can update, so we can’t tell you a precise date. We need to wait for plugins and the server’s main systems (Paper and Waterfall) to be updated and stable before we start the process. We’re also still waiting on a few bugs to be sorted out from another of our primary plugins. In short, here’s the process:

  1. Stable Paper/Waterfall updates released
  2. Stable Plugin updates released
  3. Server update!
  4. Lots of testing
  5. Whitelist temporarily removed to all but staff
  6. 1.18 Survival world created
  7. Worldborder and preloads done on overworld, Nether and End
  8. Removal of OldSurvival
  9. Creation of spawn region on 1.18 Survival (no player access yet)
  10. Final testing
  11. Open gates to 1.18 Survival

It’s a lot, and we’ll be busy setting everything up so it’s amazing for you all to start exploring. The best way to keep up to date is to join the LibraryCraft Discord. A new channel has been set up that is dedicated to LC 1.18. Until then, keep having fun in NewSurvival, and tell us what you want to see!

Keep an eye on the website – more information will be coming out when we know it!

December Creative Competition – Aussie Christmas

It’s almost Christmas! Where has this year gone? This December we want to see your interpretation of an Aussie Christmas. What does Christmas mean to you? How do you celebrate it? What do you think of when you think “Aussie Christmas”?

Rules

  • All building is in Creative Mode
  • Builders must use ONE plot only
  • All building must be done on the December Comp Map
  • Designs must be your own
  • Single player entries only – no team builds

Judging will happen during the first week of January. We’ll also be announcing the season’s top three!

The December Comp world gate – located in the Creative Lobby – will replace the November gate which will close to building at 9pm on Tuesday November 30th.

The gate will open in the Creative Lobby on the morning of December 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build. Let’s finish this season off strong!

LibraryCraft – Now with Daily Crates!

Daily Crates are now a thing! Located at the 1.17 Spawn Island, every 24 hours you’ll get the chance to win either iron ingots, wood, coal, steak, rockets or even a couple of diamonds!

The cost of a crate key is one diamond, and it needs to be in your Diamond Bank to work. Other crates will appear from time to time, but this one is here for good! Thanks to Stablows for the idea.

October Aquarium Competition Results

And that’s October! Not as many entries this month, but still some incredible ones! On to the winners.

1st Place: _pluto_9

Pluto has created a multi-storey aquarium just full of amazing STEM references, biomes and information, with plenty of stories to boot. It was so much fun exploring this one!

2nd Place: __B4CON

King of the name changes, B4CON is back with a beautiful domed aquarium. The colours in here were stunning!

3rd Place: CountDoDoDoDo

Going a bit of a different route, Count has gone with a water park ride called the Aqua Slide, with a slide going through an aquarium! That’d be a ride I’d love to go on!

Honourable Mentions

Just the one honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the top three.

Kursed7280084

A big congrats to all of our entrants! Prize collection will be added directly to your Diamond Banks – on to November and Hollywood!

Mid Season Prizes

With October all wrapped up, that means it’s time to award the mid-season prizes! We had a last minute change after this month, so the winners are:

  1. __B4C0N
  2. _pluto_9
  3. CountDoDoDoDo

1st place gets a $25 JB HiFi Voucher, with 2nd and 3rd getting a $10 voucher each! I’ll reach out in Discord to get them sorted.

Meet the Players – TurtleBoy2929

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I played Minecraft for around 7 years but stopped playing between 2018-2019. When the game became trendy again, I came back. My mum told me about Librarycraft in May 2020 and I have been playing Minecraft ever since.

What made you start playing Minecraft?

In 2013 I was watching Minecraft Youtubers like dantdm and others. When I got my first ever iPad for Christmas 2013, I watched Minecraft so much more and this made me consider getting Minecraft. I asked my mum and she agreed to spend $8 on Minecraft Pocket Edition.

What type of Minecraft player are you?

We’ll use the following list – based off Mumbo Jumbo’s video – 20 Different Types of Minecraft Player, with a couple of modifications.

  • The Gadget Guy (loves making little redstone contraptions around their base to make life easier)
  • The Resource Hoarder (everything gets stored in piles and piles of chests, even if they don’t need them)
  • The Monument Builder (they always have to have the biggest build on the server)
  • The Autofarmer (farms have to have pistons, daylight detectors, the works)
  • The Explorer (no set base, everything they have is in their inventory. They just walk)
  • The Subterranean Hermits (their entire base must be underground)
  • The Artist (all the pixel art!)
  • The Competitors (minigames is their jam – PvP, Spleef, Parkour, all that)
  • The Code Wizards (whether it’s command blocks or crazy complex redstone)
  • The Mod Fans (Vanilla Minecraft? Nah – bring on the mods and plugins)
  • The Medieval Builders (villages, ships, the lot)
  • The Modern Architect (modern houses, modern resource packs, lots of concrete)
  • The Challenge Fan (Skyblock, Survival SuperFlat, Hardcore Mode – bring on the challenges)
  • The Long Gamers (using the same world since 1.8 or before – such dedication)
  • The Minimalist (a simple house and a few farms will do fine)

I would have to say I am a subterranean hermit because a few years back I spent so much time just getting resources to make a house. One day I created a new world and found a cave which was kind of a perfect square so I put a front wall and a door and said “hey this is the best way to make a house”. I still use it even in NewSurvival on LibraryCraft.

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I start each world the same.
– Step 1: Get 2 trees
– Step 2: Make a crafting table, a pickaxe and get stone
– Step 3: get stone tools, go mining and get iron tools
– Step 4: go back to the surface and hollow the cave out
– Step 5: put a door to the entrance to the other part of the cave and realize I don’t have wool so go out to get 3 wool
– Step 6: Make a bed and go to sleep.

Thats how I start a survival world!

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

It has got to be the British ship Countdodododo and I are making in the PiratesPVP project map. It’s very nice and has everything that a pirate ship has – cannons, those sails with a balcony on top and of course the flag. This is probably the best build I have ever made with someone.

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

I don’t know the number but I can do an estimation. All of these worlds were with friends and sometimes I did cheat in them but I believe I have killed the ender dragon around 5 times.

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

My LC (LibraryCraft) base was a cave hollowed out with basically everything in a house but then I participated in the LCBBS (LibraryCraft Big Base Swap) and I got not one but two good builders (crazycollie and JtripleM). I was out of my base hoping my base would be great. May 16th came and my base became amazing with a watch tower at the top, bamboo, wheat, netherwart, carrot and berry farm, and the inside there is my bedroom, a room for my pet cow Henry, my chicken Chuck and my dog Spike. There’s also a mine where it enters a cave and finally na aquarium corridor that leads to a nether portal.

What’s your favourite block?

Ancient debris cause it gives out a kind of achievement if you have one of the blocks. It will give you the greatest kind of weapons or armour plus finding it after using exploding beds or exploding 12 pieces of TNT you finally get the greatest block in the entirety of Minecraft!

How about your favourite mob?

I would say it would be a turtle! They are cute and that’s why my username is TurtleBoy2929. They are only an animal that has no use except to get a turtle shell helmet, but in the real world they’re endangered. I like to care about them and again they are the cutest thing ever.

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

It was the monthly competitions but after one new thing came I was obsessed with it – NewSurvival. OldSurvival was mostly taken and had weird bugs but one time before school I went on NewSurvival and I found a cave which was perfect. I got help from another player hollowing it out and giving me some gifts. Then I realized that a SMP will be the best without fighting and I have been playing NewSurvival ever since.

Rules

  • All building is in Creative Mode
  • Builders must use ONE plot only
  • All building must be done on the November Comp Map
  • Designs must be your own
  • Single player entries only – no team builds

The November Comp world gate – located in the Creative Lobby – will replace the October gate which will close to building at 9pm on Sunday October 31st.

The gate will open in the Creative Lobby on the morning of November 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build. Players Choice votes will also be open as usual.
