Halloween Hats for Sale!

That’s right, we’ve got six custom Halloween Hats for sale in the server – only 3 diamonds each!

From left to right:

  • The Oversized Top Hat
  • The Pumpkin Antennae
  • The Witch’s Hat
  • The Trick Arrow
  • The Horns
  • The Pumpkin (it fits better on a regular sized head – the Villager heads are too tall!)

These are only available in 1.18 Survival. We’ll also make them available in 1.19 Survival when we update. The shop is located at 1.18Survival Spawn. It’s a big glowing pumpkin – you can’t miss it!

In order to see them you’ll need to download the new server resource pack, available at the bottom of the Player’s Guide. Alternatively if you set your LibraryCraft listing on the Multiplayer Edit screen to be Resource Packs – Enabled, it will download it for you, but you may feel a performance drop, depending on your PC’s capability.

Never used a resource pack before? That’s ok! Once it’s downloaded, in Minecraft select Options from the main menu, then Resource Packs. Make sure you do not unzip the file. It needs to stay zipped. To locate the correct folder to put it in, click Open Pack Folder (at the bottom) and drop the resource pack .zip file in. It will appear in the Available column. Select it and then click the > Arrow to move it over to the Selected column, then click Done. It will load it so the models are visible.

August Glass Required Competition Results

It’s time to announce the winners for August’s Glass Required competition, a special theme just for National Science Week 2022! The requirement for this month was to build something that required glass to function.

1st Place: toothless_spy

Something suited to Christmas as well as this one, toothless has gone with a beautiful snow globe, complete with an elf workshop underneath! With this win, toothless locks in his third competition win!

First and second place this month was actually a tie for points, with toothless only just scraping in with one extra vote received. A close one!

2nd Place: ScrpMtlAlchemist

With a first time on the podium, Scrap has gone with a glass prism throwing out a rainbow. This was really clever and it looks great as well. Well done Scrap!

3rd Place: GalaxyOcean

3rd Place this month goes to GalaxyOcean with a very clever ship in a bottle! This was one I didn’t think of, but it’s well suited to the theme.

Honourable Mentions

We have three honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the podium finish. They get a diamond block!

Pixelater3000

This one is a kaleidoscope – brilliant!

Meowlicky

Dragon_Gal

Well done to all our entries! Prizes will be delivered very soon.

Don’t forget there’s the veto option each month if you don’t like the theme idea. This can only be played once per season, so choose wisely!

Pixel Expo Creative Competition Results!

Pixel Expo is over and it was amazing to see everyone and talk to so many people. We’re pretty tired but we had a blast! During the show we were able to announce the winners of the Creative Competition, where we asked players to build something with the theme of Retro Gaming.

The winners were:

1st: toothless_spy
2nd: Meowlicky
3rd: RubyBird12

You can check out the video of their builds below.

Prizes will be given out in game in the coming week, and we’ll be in touch with players either in game or in Discord to arrange prize collection. Each of the three winners gets a JB HiFi voucher, the usual in game loot, and toothless also scores a special Pixel hamper and winner’s medal!

Thanks for everyone that entered the competition! It was a lot of fun voting on them.

September’s Player of the Month is…

It’s time to announce the Player of the Month for September! It’s special as it’s our first round of POTM and we had 13 nominations! Thanks to everyone who nominated someone. It’s great to see the positivity! We’ll go through all the nominations (not saying who the nominator was) and then announce the winner. Some you’ll be able to guess, but others are a mystery, which is great!

Blossomfallen

  • Because they have been helpful and really nice, they also help new players.

_pluto_9

  • She’s awesome and she’s the queen. She demands respect, also she’s an epic builder and really nice and snazzy – she deserves it ❤
  • They are such a good player. I think that they deserve to have this credited to their name and they were such a help to me when I joined 🙂

CountDoDo

  • They are always funny and nice plus they always find the time to read my story.
  • Very important, nice player. Nice role model for others. They are great.
  • He’s always been active on the server and is extremely nice to everyone.

AquaQuokka

  • They have been really helpful with things around the server and also really active.
  • Really funny and very helpful during the railway build.

Cramskii

  • Cramskii is such a nice and supportive player. I am honestly surprised they aren’t a mentor. They are always so kind to all the players on the server and they have really helped me and so many others on this server. This is why I think Cramskii really deserves to be POTM.

LordSquid__

  • Squid has been really nice this month, especially with me settling in to live with him in my new base at Squid Bay. He provided me extra resources to build my base and is all round really nice and fun. Even though he is used to 1.8 PVP, he still plays PVP with me in LC often and it’s a lot of fun. That’s why I think Squid should be POTM.

toothless_spy

  • This person helped me when I first joined the server and taught me the rungs to play LibraryCraft, explaining how to use portals and the competitions that went on all in an understandable way.

_Eve___

  • Eve is so kind and so creative. She is so nice to be around and play with. I remember the first time that I played Bedwars with her and she knocked me off a bridge. She was so sorry that she gathered all the wool that she could find and made a huge “sorry” sign in the main island 🙂

Kisney

  • Because when I was desperate for food Kisney gave me free food.

And the winner is CountDoDo! Congratulations Count, and well done to everyone nominated! It’s been such a pleasure reading all the nominations. Count will get a special rank in the server for a month, with [POTM] visible after his username, a POTM role in Discord, and two Mega Crate keys to spend in 118Survival!

Nominations are now open for next month. We’d love to see some of these happening again!

September Creative Competition – Colour

It’s September! Time for a new month of competition and a new theme! At the end of this round there’ll be some mid-season prizes to give away too. Got to be in it to win it! This month the theme is Colour.

Each build is limited to two colours – a primary one and a secondary one. That’s it. Gradients are allowed, but they need to be as subtle as possible. It needs to be clearly the same base colour, and as limited use as you can. This may test people!

The September Comp world gate – located in the Creative Lobby – will replace the August gate which will close to building at 9pm on Wednesday August 31st.

The gate will open in the Creative Lobby on the morning of September 1st, so get planning! Just as a reminder, here are the major prizes for this season!

Season 2 Prizes

As you know, each month we give away the following prizes:

  • 1st Prize: 4x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 15 Emerald Points
  • 2nd Prize: 3x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 10 Emerald Points
  • 3rd Prize: 2x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 5 Emerald Points

Each month the Emerald Points are tallied up and can be seen in the Emerald Hall on the Survival Lobby world. At the halfway point of the season (September for Season 2 and March for Season 1) we give away prizes to the current top three Emerald Points winners:

  • 1st Place: 1x $25 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 2nd Place: 1x $10 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 3rd Place: 1x $10 JB HiFi Voucher

At the end of the season (June and December), the grand prizes are awarded to the final top three Emerald Points winners from across the 6 months of competition. These are the big ones! This season we’re giving away:

  • 1st Prize: $350 worth of LEGO! The winner would let us know what to order (dependent on availability of course), up to $350 and we’ll get it delivered to you. This was a highly requested prize last year, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer it.
  • 2nd Prize: $100 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 3rd Prize: $50 JB HiFi Voucher

Exciting times!

Meet the Mods – Kisney

It’s been ages since we’ve had a Mod do one of these, so this is exciting! If you’re a LC player and want to do one, use the new ticket option on the LC Discord, or reach out in a mail in game.

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I started playing MC in 2011, on Xbox 360… I have played on most platforms now… Xbox, PC, Mac, even on the mobile and tablet. Now only on PC.

What made you start playing Minecraft?

It was mum duties; my due diligence because it had caught the attention of my then 5-year-old. Being a gamer growing up I knew what I was looking for… little did I know it would be something I would back for its brilliance to every other parent I met and child who asked for years to come. I was told not to let my kid play by people who didn’t know. I got told it was too old, too scary, too everything they shouldn’t do. What they didn’t know is it taught survival skills, basic thinking tasks, creative problem-solving skills, coding basics using Redstone… and above all else, community. I have spent hours on end playing with my kid ever since. Lots of brilliant memories during school holidays and getting the biggest and best mining haul of our lives.

What type of Minecraft player are you?

We use the following list – based off Mumbo Jumbo’s video – 20 Different Types of Minecraft Player, with a couple of modifications.

  • The Gadget Guy (loves making little redstone contraptions around their base to make life easier)
  • The Resource Hoarder (everything gets stored in piles and piles of chests, even if they don’t need them)
  • The Monument Builder (they always have to have the biggest build on the server)
  • The Autofarmer (farms have to have pistons, daylight detectors, the works)
  • The Explorer (no set base, everything they have is in their inventory. They just walk)
  • The Subterranean Hermits (their entire base must be underground)
  • The Artist (all the pixel art!)
  • The Competitors (minigames is their jam – PvP, Spleef, Parkour, all that)
  • The Code Wizards (whether it’s command blocks or crazy complex redstone)
  • The Mod Fans (Vanilla Minecraft? Nah – bring on the mods and plugins)
  • The Medieval Builders (villages, ships, the lot)
  • The Modern Architect (modern houses, modern resource packs, lots of concrete)
  • The Challenge Fan (Skyblock, Survival SuperFlat, Hardcore Mode – bring on the challenges)
  • The Long Gamers (using the same world since 1.8 or before – such dedication)
  • The Minimalist (a simple house and a few farms will do fine)

That’s an easy question; I’m the Resource Hoarder through and through. Playing with others and going mining for the day? No problem! I’ll bring the packed lunch and survival basics kit! I’ve got plenty to go around so we can mine to our heart’s content. But… having said that I love to explore because you never know when the next best location to start your new base will appear and it’ll be bigger and better than the last. Just give me all the farms too, and I’m happy.

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

Sometimes I try to mix it up, but mostly I start the same way every time. Explore to find the most resource-rich land that will make surviving easy so I can concentrate on building. Once I’ve got a farm, some food and a roof over my head, I like to explore… just to check what I might be missing. It’s not unheard of for me to get so lost I start over in the same world and start multiple bases with supplies so I can continue to explore but always have a half-way house scattered around here and there.

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

I think my favourite is my 1.18 Base Shop. I had another stall whilst I build a hobbit-hole style structure that players can visit my shop but also see some of my base from behind the window.

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

Once. With my kid. I was so stressed, but I finally gave in and agreed to do it. Will I do it again? Don’t bet on it. My nerves aren’t what they use to be!

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

My LC base has a few nooks and crannies, some hidden passageways and bunkers. I have an open house-like structure on the surface, along with my crops and animals, with another storage space/ home underneath with passageways to my main base under a flat glass surface. It’s all a work in progress. I built in the middle of a wood, animal and water-rich biome so that I could build with lots of materials at my disposal.

What’s your favourite block?

That’s a tough one for me… I suppose I would have to go super basic with wood. Generally, Oak. Mainly because of its versatility – it can give me tools, fuel, light, shelter, protection, the list goes on. It’s also my favourite wood to use for base building.

How about your favourite mob?

Another tough one… I think I’d have to say sheep? I really don’t know, but wool is paramount to beds which can mean life or death in Survival… Plus food and carpets are nice too. Plus, I love to dye a random sheep in a shared world because who doesn’t love stumbling across a blue sheep.

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

My favourite thing to do in LC is help out the new players with base ideas and getting them sorted with a starter farm. Sometimes just having the basics gives you a real booster. Or just buddy-mining. No one really likes to mine alone!

Pixel Ticket Giveaway & Evaluation Polls Results

We recently announced a few changes that we would be implementing in the server and Discord after receiving some excellent feedback from our annual Evaluation Survey, and we included a few polls to get your thoughts on what you wanted from them. The polls are now closed, as well as the giveaway for some free tickets to Pixel Expo on September 3rd, where LibraryCraft will have a booth! That giveaway form has also recently closed, so it’s time to announce the results! First, the evaluation polls.

Evaluation Polls Results

We ran three polls – here are the results!

  • The Ladders Poll – to see if players wanted us to add ladders as a buyable option in BedWars. 77% of you wanted ladders to be added, so it’ll be implemented in the coming weeks.
  • Next up was the Empires or PVP Survival Poll. We wanted to see if players would want regular PVP Survival added back, a more lore, story and trading based Empires Survival added instead, or to just keep it as it is. A massive 91% of you voted for Empires Survival, so we’ll be thinking through a few options and designing an option in the coming months. This one is going to take some thinking and planning, so we won’t be implementing this for a few months at least. We’ll wait until we’re a few months into 1.19 – that’s getting closer too! Only a few more plugins to be updated. More information on both 1.19 and Empires will be published here when we know it.
  • Lastly, there was the 1.19 Reset or Expansion Poll. This one was closer. Over 60% of you voted for a reset, so a new world will be created when LibraryCraft moves to 1.19.2. This means that 117Survival (formerly NewSurvival) will be removed from the server, 118Survival (the current main Survival world) will stay, and a brand new world will be created, with a separate inventory. Nothing will be able to be brought between worlds. It’ll be a fresh start for everyone. We’re in the process of designing a new Spawn area for 119Survival, and it’s looking fantastic!

Pixel Ticket Giveaway

On to the ticket giveaway! Thanks to everyone for the entries – we’ve used a random picker from online and five usernames have been chosen! Once the tickets have been sent to us, we’ll send them on to the winners. Speaking of the winners, here they are!

  • cramskii
  • Dragon_Gal
  • Meowlicky
  • Grey_Wolf_H4X0R
  • Kursed7280084

Woohoo! Congratulations to our five winners. We’re looking forward to seeing you at Pixel Expo!

We’ll be in touch with the winners soon.

July Ultimate Biome Competition Results

Season 2, 2022 is underway! It’s time to announce the winners for the first competition of the season, July’s Ultimate Biomes.

1st Place: cramskii

We’re not sure what biome this is as there was no sign left to explain what it was – could be a dark oak biome – but whatever it is, it’s beautiful! With huge mushrooms and plenty of canopy, this was a pleasure to walk through.

2nd Place: GalaxyOcean

New to the server, Galaxy created this rather unassuming black box. Curious? Drop through the End portal at the top and you come across a custom End dimension. It’s brilliantly executed and got a lot of people talking! Well done Galaxy!

3rd Place: RubyBird12

3rd Place for July actually ended up in a tie between RubyBird12 and Kursed7280084! When there is a tie, we go back to the amount of individual votes scored – this time Kursed got 3 and Ruby got 4, so 3rd place goes to Ruby!

Ruby has opted for an ultimate Flower Forest, and there’s a stunning amount of colour here, as well as a giant parrot!

Honourable Mentions

We have a whopping six honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the podium finish. They get a diamond block! See if you can guess what biomes these players have chosen.

We won an award!

Last night LibraryCraft won the prestigious Library Board of WA Award for Innovation and Collaboration! From the Awards page, The Award promotes innovation and collaboration in the library sector by any person, library or organisation in Western Australia, and is open to all areas of the library industry, including academic, public, school and special libraries, as well as to other individuals and organisations that have an impact on the promotion, provision and support of library services in Western Australia.

We’re absolutely thrilled and honoured to be selected and can’t wait to see what happens next for LibraryCraft. Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far – our partner councils, mod staff, players and their families. It means so much to us that you’re a part of the program and love sharing it with others!
