Meet the Mods – Ace_Arro

It’s so good to get back into these! We’ve got our next profile ready – an ex player and now our Trainee Mod, Ace_Arro.

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

The earliest version I remember playing was version 1.2.3, which was released in March 2012, so I’ve been playing for almost 9 years now. It’s still weird to go back to the old launcher and have a look at so many things that were different back then. Anyone remember when Minecraft only cost $12-13?

What made you start playing Minecraft?

Since I started playing when I was in year 2 or 3, it was actually my school library that made me start playing. During one of our library classes, we were introduced to a cool new game called ‘Minecraft’ and we all hopped onto a single player world and just messed around.

I had absolutely no idea how to play the game back then, as I wasn’t much of a gamer at the ripe old age of 8, and I remember being terrified the first time I saw an Enderman, but after a few classes and lunch breaks playing, I eventually got my own account and started playing for real.

What type of Minecraft player are you?

We’ll use the following list – based off Mumbo Jumbo’s video – 20 Different Types of Minecraft Player, with a couple of modifications.

  • The Gadget Guy (loves making little redstone contraptions around their base to make life easier)
  • The Resource Hoarder (everything gets stored in piles and piles of chests, even if they don’t need them)
  • The Monument Builder (they always have to have the biggest build on the server)
  • The Autofarmer (farms have to have pistons, daylight detectors, the works)
  • The Explorer (no set base, everything they have is in their inventory. They just walk)
  • The Subterranean Hermits (their entire base must be underground)
  • The Artist (all the pixel art!)
  • The Competitors (minigames is their jam – PvP, Spleef, Parkour, all that)
  • The Code Wizards (whether it’s command blocks or crazy complex redstone)
  • The Mod Fans (Vanilla Minecraft? Nah – bring on the mods and plugins)
  • The Medieval Builders (villages, ships, the lot)
  • The Modern Architect (modern houses, modern resource packs, lots of concrete)
  • The Challenge Fan (Skyblock, Survival SuperFlat, Hardcore Mode – bring on the challenges)
  • The Long Gamers (using the same world since 1.8 or before – such dedication)
  • The Minimalist (a simple house and a few farms will do fine)

Based off of MumboJumbo’s ’20 Different Types of Minecraft Players’, I’d say that I’m a combination of different types for sure, but mainly I’m a Minimalist, with touches of resource hoarder and mod fan. Back when redstone wasn’t as complicated as it is now, I used to be a gadget guy, but it’s gotten a little difficult for me to do anything other than simple light contraptions now.

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

While my houses have varied over the years, my style of gameplay has always been the same. Grab some wood, make tools, find the right biome and build a house – most likely with an inventory full of things that I really don’t need, or at least not that early in the game. I’ll place the enchanting room either in an attic or underground, and the nether portal is always under my house for some reason.

Have you beaten the EnderDragon before?

Yep,  I’ve beaten the dragon about 4 times legitimately. Once back in the early days of 1.5, twice in 1.8.x and once in 1.12.x. I’ve still yet to beat it in 1.13+ legitimately, but I’m working towards it.

What’s your favourite block?

Ooh, that’s a tough one. My favourite block has changed a lot throughout the years, but I’d say my favourite has to be either blackstone or crying obsidian. I just think they’re neat.

How about your favourite mob?

This is actually a toss up between Endermen – ironic, given they scared me so much when I started playing- and Parrots, specifically the cyan parrots. If I had to choose, however, it’d probably be the parrots.

Ever played in Hardcore? What’s your favourite game mode?

I have played in Hardcore mode before – I even have one in my single player worlds right now! – but I’m never able to get out of the Nether alive. I prefer to play on Normal survival, and it’s the mode that I’ve always beaten the EnderDragon on.

Meet the Mods – Quirtle

It’s been way too long since we’ve done one of these – the first one (me – JohnsanGeezo) was back in March! Let’s get back into it, with our newest moderator, Quirtle.

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I started playing Minecraft in 2009, I would have been in year 9 at high school when it came out. It was one of my first multiplayer games with my school friends. I played it constantly, long after everyone that I knew moved on to other games. It has been amazing being able to see the survival genre take off, ‘randomly generated open world’ was not a phrase that existed pre Minecraft.

What made you start playing Minecraft?

I played a lot of games in high school, probably more than I should have. I liked Team Fortress 2, Sims and Age of Empires. I did not know if other people at my school played games, it was not popular the way it is now. When I heard some guys in my friend group talking about a new game that they were going to play together I asked for an account too. The rest is history after that. I found a screenshot from a Minecraft server in 2011, back when MSN was cool and you could only make servers through LogMeInHamachi.

Probably a combination of a Mod Fan and a Medieval Builder. I really like making medieval builds and incorporating mods that bring magic and fantasy into the world. Back when I used to play Thaumcraft on a FeedTheBeast server I would make towns run by these cute little golems that I set up to sort my inventory for me.

The think that I like about mods is that they can make the game interesting again if you ever got bored of the classic Minecraft experience. Once I made the mistake of introducing someone new to a modded game of Minecraft. That was a mistake.

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I usually plan to do something different then end up doing the same thing every time. I tend to avoid mining and prefer to stay on the surface building, farming and creating big towns to keep the villagers safe while I max out their trading.

Have you beaten the EnderDragon before?

I have, I did it once for bragging rights then never did it again.

What’s your favourite block?

I like glowstone, it is the easiest and most beautiful way to light up your house. It also makes a very nice streetlight when placed on some fence or iron bars.

How about your favourite mob?

I really like the villagers! Every time I play a game I like to find a village and settle down nearby, that way I can defend the village at night and build it up during the day. The village and pillage update was a very welcome surprise.

Ever played in Hardcore? What’s your favourite game mode?

No way, I don’t think that I have the patience for Hardcore. I like the classic survival experience on normal mode, that is what I started Minecraft on so that balance just makes sense to me. I play games to relax and be creative, hardcore mode’s permadeath would probably make me rage quit into the abyss.

February Build Competition – Free Build

I can’t believe January 2021 is almost done! It’s time to announce the next competition. Get those January Superhero and Supervillain bases finished…

February should be a fun one. We’re going themeless in February, with Free Build! That’s right, you can build anything you like (within the server rules of course…). I think this one may be one that mixes things up a little.

Rules

  • All building must be in Creative Mode
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • All entries must be built on the February Comp world
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online!

Judging will take place during the first week of March 2021. The February Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the January gate which will close to building at 9pm on Sunday January 31st.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of February 1st, so have a think about what you want to build.

Everything you need to know about the BedWars Tournaments

It’s almost time for the School Holiday BedWars Tournaments! We’ve had a huge amount of registrations, and all of the slots are now full. We’ve got a record amount of entries this time. Here’s all the information you need to know.

All matches (including the Grand Finals now – our bracket system recently added this feature in) will be a double elimination knockout. You must lose twice in order to be out of the competition. If you lose once, you can still come back and win the whole thing. All matches will be played on the Forest Map, and there will be no grace periods – the match will play as default.

This time we are running each tournament over the course of a week:

Solos: 11th to 17th January
Pairs: 18th to 24th January

While both brackets are published, no official pairs matches should occur between the 11th and 17th of January, and no final Solos matches should occur between the 18th and 24th. If you cannot make your match during the allocated dates, you will forfeit the match. It is up to the players to schedule their matches during the correct week, and report back to LightKLibrary, preferably through Discord in #tournaments, or using in-game mail if you do not have Discord access.

What should I report to LightKLibrary?
1. Report if you are unable to schedule a match during the allocated week.
2. Both players must report the results after the match, in either Discord (#tournaments) or using in-game mail.

LightKLibrary will then update the bracket, so the next match can be scheduled.

Can I report to JohnsanGeezo?
Nope, he’ll be on holidays! LightKLibrary is the only one that has access to the brackets.

I can’t read the teams properly on the Pairs bracket!
The teams are:
SuperHeroFlash & lowkeq
Crazycollie1205 & JtripleM
Cram_ & _skip
Ghostrealm2002 & EJ_W
Dark_Dreams & MattyBGamer_
DexterouzDingo & Xx_Aidan_xX
Ghostrealm2000 & ThatGamer762
_erupt & blackfrilled

My teammate can’t make the match!
You are able to play the Pairs match solo if your teammate cannot make it.

Are you sure we can’t delay the matches we can’t play to a different week?
Yes. You must complete your matches in their designated week. This is so results and prizes can be finalised in a timely fashion, and stops a lot of confusion.

Can we use a different map, like Arena or Winter?
No, all matches must be played on Forest, so it’s fair for everyone.

Can we have longer grace periods before PvP starts?
No, the default game settings must be used. All matches must be played fair and according to the rules. If exploits or cheats are seen to be used, the player using them will instantly forfeit the match, and the player will be placed in jail according to server rules.

Can another player (registered or not registered) play instead?
No. Only the registered players are able to play. No substitutes will be allowed.

Ok, what are the brackets?
Here they are! Make sure you check the matches properly.

Good luck!

December and Emerald Points Season 2 Results

That’s it! The year is over! The December competition is complete, the votes are in and have been tallied, and it’s also the end of the second Emerald Points season!

We had some really stunning entries this month, when we asked you to build something Christmassy. On to the results.

1st Place: Crazycollie1205

Collie went to town creating a beautiful looking town centre, complete with an ice skating rink, a couple of house façades, Christmas tree, presents, and Santa and the reindeer flying overhead. There is so much detail in here, it’s stunning.

2nd Place: DexterouzDingo

In true DexterouzDingo form, the build was a tall one – so tall it didn’t fit in one image! The base is a stunning looking house, fully decorated inside, and the top, joined by a very large candy cane pole…

…is what appears to be Santa’s outpost, with some elves running around!

3rd Place: JtripleM

Finally, JtripleM created a very nice looking snow globe and snowman, decorated with holly and presents around the outside.

Honourable Mention

We only have one honourable mention this round, with Countdodododo scoring some votes, but not enough to make the podium finish. Well done Count! This Santa Airport is really clever.

Emerald Points Season 2 Results

That brings us to the end of the second Emerald Points Season!

Here’s the results:

JtripleM – 50 pts
DexterouzDingo – 30 pts

JtripleM takes home a brand new Logitech gaming mouse, DexterouzDingo gets a $30 JB HiFi voucher, and Crazycollie1205 gets a $20 JB HiFi voucher.

I’ll be in touch with the winners in the coming days to tee up some prize collection times.

Thanks for a Minecraft filled 2020!

2020 is done and dusted, and I think a lot of people are glad it’s over. On behalf of the LibraryCraft Staff team, I’d like to say a massive thank you to all our players and families for supporting the server by either playing on it, promoting it to friends, and generally getting excited about it! We had a massive first year of LibraryCraft, and we’ve got so much more planned for 2021.

From a small server for a bunch of CoderDojo kids to the state wide experience we are today, I cannot thank you personally enough for getting on board. Here’s a few fun facts for you:

  • 283 whitelisted players across 39 local government areas all over WA
  • Over 180 entries during 9 months of Monthly Creative Competitions
  • Over 1 year, 2 months and 2 weeks of continuous play since January 1, 2020
  • Almost 40 worlds created and used over 12 months, with almost half still accessible to players

We’ve seen a new Survival system added, new mini games and player created Creative worlds, highly successful school holiday tournaments, competitions, and plenty of new friendships formed and laughs had! I’ll be preparing our first annual report in the coming days so if you are interested in finding out more about the 2020 LibraryCraft has had, stay tuned. I’ll post a link to it here when it’s ready.

For now, take a look through some of the images for the year. Thanks again for the support, and bring on 2021!

January Build Competition – Superhero/Supervillain Bases

It’s 2021 very soon, and that means time to announce the next competition! We’ve got a bit of time to finish off the December Christmas theme, so you’ve got a bit of time to get it done.

To kick off a new season we’re starting 2021 off with Superhero and Supervillain bases! This was the one that came so close to winning the player’s choice poll back in November. If you’ve never entered a Monthly competition before, this is the perfect opportunity to do it as the slate has been wiped clean.

We want to see some amazing bases – think about your favourite heroes or villains. What would they have in their bases?

Rules

  • All building must be in Creative Mode
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • All entries must be built on the January Comp world
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online!

Judging will take place during the first week of February 2021. The January Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the December gate which will close to building at 9pm on Thursday December 31st.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of January 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build. Bring on 2021!

January BedWars Tournaments

School holidays are not far away, which means BedWars Tournament time! There will be two BedWars tournaments during the January School Holidays:

  • Solo Double Elimination Tournament – January 11th to 17th
  • Pairs Double Elimination Tournament – January 18th to 24th

All matches will be played on the Forest Map. We’ll be posting the bracket link on this website and in Discord for players to check. This time around you will be responsible for scheduling your matches – they must happen in the correct week!

Registrations

Registrations are open now, and will close on Saturday January 9th at 9pm.

To register, send JohnsanGeezo a mail in game (using /mail send JohnsanGeezo [message]) with which tournaments you will be entering, and your partner if doing Pairs. All players must register themselves.

Reporting Results

All results must be sent to LightKLibrary in the #tournaments channel on Discord, or in game. Please do not send them to JohnsanGeezo (me) as I’ll be on holidays and won’t be around for the tournaments!

Prizes

The prizes will be:

  • Solo Winner – $50 JB HiFi Voucher and $10,000 in game cash
  • Teams Winners – $50 JB HiFi Voucher and $7,500 in game cash EACH

If you have questions, reach out to staff in game or in Discord!

November Creative Competition – Results

The November Sea Monsters competition is done. Time for the results! There were some more really spectacular entries this month.

1st Place: JtripleM

Three in a row! This time around JtripleM has created a monstrous kraken emerging from the ocean. It’s pretty spectacular!

2nd Place: DexterouzDingo

He’s back! Dex has returned from a bit of school focus time (well done mate) to build a massive dragon/octopus hybrid getting into a sailing ship. In classic Dex style, it’s massive…

3rd Place: Countdodododo

Count has done it! Top three! After a few times of being very close, he’s made the top three with a brilliant build of Poseidon battling a huge sea serpent in a storm. It’s brilliant!

Well done to all of our winners! Your prizes will be added to your accounts. We also had a number of entries that got votes, but didn’t quite get there. Here they are…
