May Build Competition – Treehouses

Just under one week until May! That means the end of the April Ships challenge, and the start of a new one for May in the Emerald Competition! If you’re still not sure what I’m on about, read the April post to get up to speed.

The big thing to note for this month is that at the end of May, we’ll be giving away some JB HiFi vouchers to the three players with the most Emerald Points so far – $25 for 1st, and $10 each for 2nd and 3rd. These will be given away at the start of June, to give us time to judge.

Anyway, this month we want to see your best Treehouses!

The competition for May goes from Friday May 1st, to Sunday May 31st. You might also notice our new Monthly Competition world. Isn’t it nice? We’ll be using this one from now on.

Rules

  • All building must be in Creative Mode – there are no height restrictions (aside from the vanilla ceiling)
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • Plots are 40×40
  • All entries must be built on the May Comp world
  • Builds must not go over the paths – this includes tree canopies
  • No removing or modifying the paths
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online

Judging will take place during the first week of June. The May Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the April gate and will close to players at 9pm on Sunday April 31st. All players still in the world at this time will be teleported back to spawn.

The gate will re-open for the June competition during the morning of June 1st.

Winners will be notified by an in-game mail sent to all players. In order to claim your prize, you must log in so one of the mods can pay you.

End of Season Prizes

Again, at the end of the season (the end of July), the player with the most Emerald Points since April will be deemed the winner, and will receive a new keyboard!

Specifically, the Steelseries Apex 3 Water Resistant Gaming Keyboard. Second place will take home a $50 JB HiFi Voucher, with third taking away a $25 voucher.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of May 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build.

Build Spotlight – Mushroom House

Check this out! FabClippers has created a huge mushroom house on the Survival World, and it’s phenomenal!

Rising out of a lake by the Survival Gate and absolutely dwarfing some jungle trees, this is Fab’s new home base, and it looks absolutely fantastic! I love the shaping of the dome in particular. Well done! If you’re in game, swing by and check it out.

April Build Competition – Ships!

We’re a week out from April – next week our very first monthly build competition kicks off! If you haven’t seen the Competitions page yet, here’s what will happen.

The start of every month brings a new, month-long, themed Creative mode build competition. We’ll give out prizes to the top three entries, as well as Emerald Points. Importantly, all monthly competitions are single player entries only. Unfortunately entries cannot be submitted by a pair of players, or a team, as there needs to be one winner.

With 15 points for a win, 10 for second and 5 points for third, these get tallied up each month. Seasons will normally go for 6 months – January to June, and July to December. During 2020, we’ll do the seasons differently – April to July, and August to December. Whoever has the most points at the end of each season takes home some prizes! But that’s not all.

Prizes

At the end of each month, the month’s winner will get some in-game currency – $5000 for a win, $2500 for second, and $1000 for 3rd.

After 3 months, we’ll give away some JB HiFi vouchers to the three players with the most Emerald Points – $25 for 1st, and $10 each for 2nd and 3rd.

At the end of the 6 month season, there are the grand prizes – gear like gaming keyboards and mice for the winner, and vouchers for second and third places.

So, onto this season. As the title suggests, we’re going to be making ships!

The competition for April goes from Wednesday April 1st, to Thursday April 30th.

Rules

  • All building must be in Creative Mode
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Ships can be any style or size, but MUST be contained in a single plot
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • Plots are 30×60 water plots (see the video below)
  • All entries must be built on the April Comp world
  • Builds must not go over the jetty borders
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online

Judging will take place during the first week of May. The April Comp world gate, located on the Warp Ship, will close to players at 9pm on Thursday April 30th. All players still in the world at this time will be teleported back to spawn.

The gate will re-open for the May competition during the morning of May 1st.

Winners will be notified by an in-game mail sent to all players. In order to claim your prize, you must log in so JohnsanGeezo can pay you.

After the competition is complete, the builds will be moved to the new Survival Dock being built on the Survival world, so everyone can explore them.

End of Season Prizes

At the end of the season (the end of July), the player with the most Emerald Points will be deemed the winner, and will receive a new keyboard!

Specifically, the Steelseries Apex 3 Water Resistant Gaming Keyboard. Second place will take home a $50 JB HiFi Voucher, with third taking away a $25 voucher.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of April 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build.

Meet the Mods – JohnsanGeezo

Over the next few weeks we’ll be getting to know our moderator team, and their relationship with Minecraft. Let’s kick it off with me – JohnsanGeezo!

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I started playing in 2009, in the Minecraft Classic days! Did you know you can play Minecraft Classic through a browser? It was very different…

Man, it was exciting in mid 2010 when doors were added! Such simple things.

What made you start playing Minecraft?

It was a friend of mine who said I should check it out – at the time he thought it had the potential to be pretty cool. It turns out he was definitely right! He sold the idea to me with a simple sentence:

If you can survive the first night, you’ll be hooked.

I survived and I’ve been playing ever since!

What type of Minecraft player are you?

In future interviews, we’ll be going off the following list based off Mumbo Jumbo’s video – 20 Different Types of Minecraft Player, with a couple of modifications.

  • The Gadget Guy (loves making little redstone contraptions around their base to make life easier)
  • The Resource Hoarder (everything gets stored in piles and piles of chests, even if they don’t need them)
  • The Monument Builder (they always have to have the biggest build on the server)
  • The Autofarmer (farms have to have pistons, daylight detectors, the works)
  • The Explorer (no set base, everything they have is in their inventory. They just walk)
  • The Subterranean Hermits (their entire base must be underground)
  • The Artist (all the pixel art!)
  • The Competitors (minigames is their jam – PvP, Spleef, Parkour, all that)
  • The Code Wizards (whether it’s command blocks or crazy complex redstone)
  • The Mod Fans (Vanilla Minecraft? Nah – bring on the mods and plugins)
  • The Medieval Builders (villages, ships, the lot)
  • The Modern Architect (modern houses, modern resource packs, lots of concrete)
  • The Challenge Fan (Skyblock, Survival SuperFlat, Hardcore Mode – bring on the challenges)
  • The Long Gamers (using the same world since 1.8 or before – such dedication)
  • The Minimalist (a simple house and a few farms will do fine)

That’s a serious question! I think I’d be a combination of a few of them. I can be a resource hoarder (not a problem now that LibraryCraft has trade and a server shop), I’m a bit of an explorer, and I do love an underground base. Mainly though, I’m a Minimalist. In LibraryCraft there’s always something to do, so I don’t get a lot of time to play survival!

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I’ve been playing the same way for years! A simple house made mostly of glass, with a balcony (so it has to be on a cliff edge or somewhere high), and a few underground rooms for storage and enchanting.

I rarely go to the Nether, and I’ve still not been to the End! I’m weird like that.

Have you beaten the EnderDragon before?

Nope, I’ve not been to the End!

What’s your favourite block?

I really like stone bricks – especially the mossy ones. A path mixed with mossy and cracked stone bricks just looks awesome.

How about your favourite mob?

Easy one – the bees! They’re cute and they produce honey – delicious!

Ever played in Hardcore? What’s your favourite game mode?

No way – I get too attached to my builds. If I died and lost my world, I’d be devastated! Normal Survival for me.

Economy System 2.0

Ever wanted to be able to buy some of those rarer items in the game? Now you can! The Mod team have improved the Economy System with a brand new Server Shop.

In addition to player stores, where player to player buying and selling occurs, you can now use your hard earned in-game cash to trade directly with the server itself.

To get access to the server shop, type /shop. (It will come up with /shop [section], but just leave it as /shop and it will work). The image above shows what will appear. The server shop is split up into sections (from left to right, top to bottom):

  • Ores
  • Music
  • Blocks
  • Farming
  • Mobs (drops, not the mobs themselves)
  • Enchanting
  • Colours
  • Other
  • Food
  • Decorations
  • Redstone
  • Potions

Click on one and the selections will appear.

Some are cheap, some not so much! If the buy and sell options are $0, it means they’re not available.

When an item is selected, you’ll see the following screen:

There’s currently one grass block that will be sold. To add more, use the glass panes to the right for +1, +16 or +32. To check your balance, hover over your player head in the bottom left corner.

When you’re happy with your amount, click the map at the top to buy them. They’ll appear in your inventory!

How can I make more money?

Great question – you can make more money by creating a shop in the Trade Hall yourself, by winning a match in Spleef or PVP, or by winning one of our Monthly Build Competitions!

As of right now, a Spleef or PVP win will reward you with $100. You can find out more about the Monthly Build Competition rewards on the Competition Page.

New Lobby World!

Thanks to a previous map by The Atlas Team over at Planet Minecraft, we’ve now got a new server lobby world! There’s two main floating islands – one for spawn and instructions, and one for our new trade hall, as well as some other islands and a massive flying ship that holds our warp gates.

New players spawn at the beacon, within reach of a few information posters. The house closest to the beacon has the gate to the ship, which holds all the other gates to various worlds. Parkour is now based out of another house, and the hot air balloon is the link to the bottom island. Walk towards it…

…and you’ll be transported to the massive Trade Hall, the home of player shops.

There’s warps a plenty, including two to the PVP and Spleef islands, for a bit of minigame fun.

Enjoy!
