August Build Competition – Underwater Bases – with the WA Maritime Museum!

It’s just under two weeks until the end of July, and we have had some great entries in the Gates competition so far, but I want to get everyone excited for what is next.

In August we’re teaming up with the WA Maritime Museum to celebrate National Science Week. 2020’s theme is Deep Blue, so we’re asking you to build your best Underwater Base. Builds must be themed around one of the following topics:

  • Research Base (underwater research in shallow and deep water)
  • Camoflaged Base (hiding from the monsters of the deep)
  • Exploration Base (searching for a new place to live)

We have created a brand new custom world just for this competition, with huge 100×100 sized water plots. Each plot has a small section of beach.

The WA Maritime Museum has also provided some extra video content for players, covering some deep sea exploration missions in WA. This content will be useful in getting the most out of your builds! Each player will also be able to ask questions of the expedition team themselves.

Rules

  • All building is in Creative Mode
  • Builders must choose ONE topic above
  • Builders must use ONE plot only
  • All building must be done on the August Comp Map
  • Designs must be your own
  • Single player entries only – no team builds

Each base MUST include:

  • A way to get inhabitants and supplies from the Base to the surface (each plot has a section of land)
  • Living Quarters
  • Research laboratories (plants and animals)
  • Water and Air filtration systems (use your imagination)
  • Ocean access for marine life study and exploration (shallow and deep water)
  • Submersible craft or ROV (remotely operated vehicle)

Judging will happen during the first week of September. Judging will be based on both aesthetics (how it looks), and functionality. The WA Maritime Museum staff will be judging the entries as well, with each WAMM vote counting for two moderator votes.

As per normal, the August Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the July gate which will close to building at 9pm on Friday July 31st.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of August 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build. Players Choice votes will also be open as usual.

Prizes

The top three designs will win an extra special prize, just for August, thanks to the WA Maritime Museum. To qualify for these prizes, a question must be submitted to the WAMM Science team. More information on this is available in game. Regular Emerald Points prizes will be given out as usual – it’s the start of a new season, so points will get reset!

1st Place: 300X 8-LED USB Digital Microscope
2nd & 3rd Places: 25x Brass Monocular Spyglass

These are some seriously cool prizes, so I’m looking forward to seeing the builds and getting your questions!

In the mean time, keep building those gates!

June Winter Competition – Results

The moderators have done another round of voting so here are the top three for June! We had over 25 entries this round. That’s huge!

Like every month, each moderator chose their top three and submitted the votes to me. I then tally them up with each vote getting a score – 15 points for a 1st choice vote, 10 points for 2nd, 5 points for 3rd. The points were added up and the three top points scorers got the wins.

1st Place: Xx_Aidan_xX

In the space of a solid 5 hours of building, Aidan created a beautiful snowglobe! The shaping of this is stunning.

2nd Place: _xXDedukKingXx_

King once again reached for the skies with a large floating castle and a dragon.

3rd Place: TapuKoko888

Koko submitted a very clever Santa’s village. There was so much detail, including a hidden underground Santa’s hideout, and Santa’s sleigh!

Honourable Mentions

Like last month, there were a few players that scored some votes, but missed out on the top spot.

FrankieSquid8 created this cozy winter house with a very nice interior.

Rodger500, built a series of igloos and a roaring campfire amongst the snow.

EpicCracker29, submitted a very nice winter village with a couple of houses, an igloo and a great looking beacon housing.

Finally, ___cosmic__ included a beautiful secluded campsite amongst snow covered trees.

There were so many more entries that were all fantastic builds – a massive congratulations to all who entered. Check out the video above.

The Winter world will be available for a little while longer to get any final Player’s Choice votes in. The top three Players’ Choice builds will get some extra in game cash.

We’ve got one more month to go before the end of the very first season of the Emerald Points competition. The tally so far is:

  • _xXDedukKingXx_ – 35 points
  • Tapukoko888 – 20 points
  • Xx_Aidan_xX – 15 points
  • toothless_spy – 10 points
  • IcyDragon27 – 5 points
  • EvaLPS – 5 points

It’s still anyone’s game! Any of the current placeholders above can sneak in to get a prize at the end of July. It’s getting exciting now. In August we start again with a new season and new prizes!

Congratulations to all! Let’s keep building – we’re looking forward to seeing the Gates!

July Build Competition – Gates

It’s just over a week until the end of June, so finish your Winter builds and get ready for July! This month we’re doing something a little different – Gates.

JohnsanGeezo is currently setting up a new custom world with some customised bosses to battle. This custom world will have a central gate area, with five different regions, home to different bosses. The regions (so far) will be Valley, Dark Forest, Ocean, Corrupted/Nether, and The End.

We want you to design our five region gates! The best gate designs (hopefully one for each region) will then be incorporated into the new Mob Battle World.

Rules

  • All building is in Creative Mode
  • Builders must use ONE plot only
  • Choose a theme for your gate (Valley, Dark Forest, Ocean, Corrupted, End)
  • All building must be done on the July Comp Map
  • Designs must be your own
  • Single player entries only – no team builds
  • Actual Gate designs must meet certain criteria in order to work (see examples in the competition world by the world Gate)
  • Gates will not be functional while in the Competition World

Judging will happen during the first week of August. The July Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the June gate which will close to building at 9pm on Tuesday June 30th.

Also, we will still be choosing an overall top three for the Emerald Points competition. There will hopefully be five different gates that will be moved to the new world.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of July 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build.

Player’s Choice Votes – Winter

Late next week the moderator team will be judging the Winter entries, and like with the Treehouses, you can add your votes in too. The gate to the Winter world will be available on the upper deck of the Warp Ship. The Winter world will be set to Adventure Mode so no more building will be able to happen, and it will be available for two weeks for players to check out. Voting is done by sending JohnsanGeezo a mail using /mail send JohnsanGeezo.

Players are not allowed to vote for their own entry, and must choose their top 3 builds (you can’t vote for the moderator’s builds). Players are also not allowed to buy or bribe for votes. If you are caught doing this, you will automatically be disqualified from getting Player votes for that month.

The top three entrants in the Players Choice will also get some in-game currency. For more information about the Emerald Points Competition, check out the article all about it.

Get in touch on Discord or in game if you have questions! We’re looking forward to seeing those entries!

May Treehouse Competition – Results

The moderators have cast their votes, the votes have been tallied and here’s the top three! We had 16 entries this round.

Like last month, each moderator chose their top three and submitted the votes to me. I then tally them up with each vote getting a score – 15 points for a 1st choice vote, 10 points for 2nd, 5 points for 3rd. The points were added up and the three top points scorers got the wins. This round we also had a tie for first place, so in future we will be counting how many individual votes the tied entries got, to separate them. If it’s still a tie, then we’ll do a build off. No need for that this time!

1st Place: Tapukoko888

Koko created a brilliant treehouse hotel, complete with beautiful gardens and a detailed welcome lobby. I particularly liked the stained glass flower on the front wall.

2nd Place: _xXDedukKingXx_

King went big this round – really, really big! This beautifully crafted autumn tree had a brilliant shape and was situated on a large hill.

3rd Place: EvaLPS

Eva submitted a dense forest with plenty of wildlife inhabiting it, plus a nice hidden house at the top with multiple levels. The birds in particular were a very nice touch!

Honourable Mentions

Like last time, there were a few players that scored some votes, but missed out on the top spot.

TapuFini888 created this very cool flame tree, using magma and honeycomb blocks for the leaves.

Jackolanten1, a Star Wars fan, made an Ewok village on Endor.

Finally, Ghostrealm2001 included a very nice garden glasshouse in his treehouse!

There were so many more entries that were all fantastic builds – a massive congratulations to all who entered. The June world looks great already – bring on Winter!

The Treehouse world will be available for another week to get any final Player’s Choice votes in. The top three Players’ Choice builds will get some extra in game cash.

Mid Season Prizes

That brings us to the mid-season prizes! We’re halfway through our shorter first season, so that means some prizes will be given away. Here’s who has won, and what they get! I’ll be in touch with everyone next week to organise a prize pickup.

_xXDedukKingXx_ with 25 Emerald Points, takes home a $25 JB HiFi Voucher, with Tapukoko888 (15 pts) and toothless_spy (10 pts) both taking home a $10 JB HiFi Voucher.

Congratulations to all! Let’s keep building!

LibraryCraft & BedWars!

After so many requests (seriously, so many) LibraryCraft now has a BedWars world! We decided to get rid of the Racing world in order to make room for it – we may bring it back one day, but if we do, it won’t be for a while.

The BedWars map is set in a Western style desert town and can take 4 teams with a maximum of 2 players in each team. Each team (Red, Green, Blue and Yellow) have a bronze resource spawner, with the smaller islands in front containing an iron resource spawner. The centre island has a few gold resource spawners.

If you’ve never played BedWars before, it’s essentially capture the flag and PVP all rolled into one. Protect your bed while trying to destroy other team beds. If your bed still stands, then when you die you can respawn. No bed means no respawn and the game is over!

Inside each team base is a shop (the villager). The resource spawners are the in game currency – use these to get some nice powerups and things to help! Wool to get across the void, arrow deflects, potions, armour, swords, even an exploding sheep!

When you head to the gate you’ll spawn on a platform above the arena. Click the left sign to join the game (it may say Disabled but this is a current bug – click it anyway) and then choose a team by clicking an armour stand. If you don’t choose a team, one will be chosen for you.

You can also see your individual statistics on the hologram on the island. A player kill will give you $5 and a win will give you $50. These may be increased later.

If you have questions about the game, either ask in Discord or in game!
