July Ultimate Biome Competition Results

Season 2, 2022 is underway! It’s time to announce the winners for the first competition of the season, July’s Ultimate Biomes.

1st Place: cramskii

We’re not sure what biome this is as there was no sign left to explain what it was – could be a dark oak biome – but whatever it is, it’s beautiful! With huge mushrooms and plenty of canopy, this was a pleasure to walk through.

2nd Place: GalaxyOcean

New to the server, Galaxy created this rather unassuming black box. Curious? Drop through the End portal at the top and you come across a custom End dimension. It’s brilliantly executed and got a lot of people talking! Well done Galaxy!

3rd Place: RubyBird12

3rd Place for July actually ended up in a tie between RubyBird12 and Kursed7280084! When there is a tie, we go back to the amount of individual votes scored – this time Kursed got 3 and Ruby got 4, so 3rd place goes to Ruby!

Ruby has opted for an ultimate Flower Forest, and there’s a stunning amount of colour here, as well as a giant parrot!

Honourable Mentions

We have a whopping six honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the podium finish. They get a diamond block! See if you can guess what biomes these players have chosen.

We won an award!

Last night LibraryCraft won the prestigious Library Board of WA Award for Innovation and Collaboration! From the Awards page, The Award promotes innovation and collaboration in the library sector by any person, library or organisation in Western Australia, and is open to all areas of the library industry, including academic, public, school and special libraries, as well as to other individuals and organisations that have an impact on the promotion, provision and support of library services in Western Australia.

We’re absolutely thrilled and honoured to be selected and can’t wait to see what happens next for LibraryCraft. Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far – our partner councils, mod staff, players and their families. It means so much to us that you’re a part of the program and love sharing it with others!

Meet the Players – YanaBananaa

It’s been a while between these! Time to get back into them. If you’re a LC player and want to do one, use the new ticket option on the LC Discord.

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I’ve been playing Minecraft since the 1.8 update, so 2015? I remember trying to kill zombies with saplings and feeling achieved when I had made a bed!

What made you start playing Minecraft?

I remember watching youtubers like dantdm, and thinking the game looked so cool. Me and my brother eventually convinced our parents to get it, and I have been playing ever since.

What type of Minecraft player are you?

We use the following list – based off Mumbo Jumbo’s video – 20 Different Types of Minecraft Player, with a couple of modifications.

  • The Gadget Guy (loves making little redstone contraptions around their base to make life easier)
  • The Resource Hoarder (everything gets stored in piles and piles of chests, even if they don’t need them)
  • The Monument Builder (they always have to have the biggest build on the server)
  • The Autofarmer (farms have to have pistons, daylight detectors, the works)
  • The Explorer (no set base, everything they have is in their inventory. They just walk)
  • The Subterranean Hermits (their entire base must be underground)
  • The Artist (all the pixel art!)
  • The Competitors (minigames is their jam – PvP, Spleef, Parkour, all that)
  • The Code Wizards (whether it’s command blocks or crazy complex redstone)
  • The Mod Fans (Vanilla Minecraft? Nah – bring on the mods and plugins)
  • The Medieval Builders (villages, ships, the lot)
  • The Modern Architect (modern houses, modern resource packs, lots of concrete)
  • The Challenge Fan (Skyblock, Survival SuperFlat, Hardcore Mode – bring on the challenges)
  • The Long Gamers (using the same world since 1.8 or before – such dedication)
  • The Minimalist (a simple house and a few farms will do fine)

I think I’m a resource hoarder. I have so many chests just full of dirt and grass in both the library craft worlds and have blocks that I’ll probably never use.

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I used to always start my worlds the same way. Get wood, build a simple oak house and mine. But now I like to challenge myself and do different things, like my 118 starter base is actually a small raft in the middle of the ocean.

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

My favourite builds are definitely the ones I have done for the LibraryCraft monthly comps. Some of my favourites are my December 2021 beach party, February art gallery build, and the March modern house.

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

I’ve never beaten the ender dragon. It’s definitely a goal of mine, but I like to relax in my worlds and build and have fun.

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

My current 118 mega base is a large hall in a massive 1.18 deep slate cave. I challenged myself this time to experiment with some things I have never done before and I think it turned out alright!

What’s your favourite block?

My favourite block is definitely deepslate. It is so unique with the bricks, tiles and polished variants and I can’t wait to use more it in my 118 base.

How about your favourite mob?

My favourite mob, now that’s a hard one. I really like all the pets in my 118 world. I have an axolotl, dog, cat, horse, and I am on the hunt for a parrot. I like all the tameable animals.

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

My favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft is to play survival and do fun projects with other people. For example, CountDodo, AquaQuokka and I built a massive railway all through the 118 world called Azure Rails. I also really like the creative competitions and having fun there.

The Pixel Expo Ticket Giveaway

Time to give away some tickets to Pixel Expo! We’ve got five tickets to give away to our whitelisted players. If you are whitelisted during the time of this competition, you’re eligible to win! A general admission ticket to Pixel Expo usually costs $30, so this is a good option to save some cash.

We will be selecting five players using computerised random selection to receive a ticket each to Pixel Expo. To enter, complete the form before Sunday August 7th, 9pm. We’ll need your real name and your username. That’s it! You’re limited to one entry per whitelisted player.

Full terms and conditions are visible at the bottom of the form. Good luck!

The Pixel Expo Competition and More!

That’s right! The LibraryCraft team will be at Pixel Expo on September 3, with some exciting things to get stuck into! We’ve also got five free tickets to the expo to give away to our players! More information on that below.

We’ve got a huge booth with plenty to do – spot the differences will be making a come back, plus two new maps to get stuck into. We’ve got Pixel Island, and the Pixel Creative Competition!

Pixel Island

Using a beautiful map from firehart, we’ve got Pixel Island to get creative on. This island will be a limited run Creative island. We’re inviting players to build something on the map, but you’ve only got a couple of days to do it! The map will be open to building on September 2nd and 3rd only, then locked to building but open to explore until the 9th. So building will be available the day before Pixel Expo and the day of the expo, with some laptops available at the LibraryCraft booth. Come down and say hi!

The Pixel Creative Competition

In addition to the regular monthly Creative Competitions, we’re running a bonus one in the lead up to Pixel Expo. We’ve even got a theme! The theme for the competition is Retro Gaming. What will you build? We’ve even got a bigger competition map!

The competition will be open from August 1st to 26th. Why not a whole month? That’s a great question! In the last week of the competition we’ll be judging the entries, with the winners to be announced at Pixel Expo! If you want to find out who wins, you’ll want to be at the expo.

The prizes for this competition are a $50 JB HiFi Voucher for 1st place, and a $25 JB HiFi voucher each for 2nd and 3rd, plus regular in game loot for the top three and anyone who scores a vote. In game loot includes diamond blocks and a mega crate keys for the podium players, and a diamond block for anyone who scores a vote.

Both gates will be available in the Creative Lobby – August 1st for the Competition, and September 2nd for Pixel Island.

Free Ticket Giveaway!

Yep, we’ve got five tickets to give away to our whitelisted players to attend Pixel Expo for free! We’ll be announcing how to enter this in the coming days. Keep an eye out on the website and Discord for more information.

August Creative Competition – Glass Required & Season 2 2022 Prizes!

Each year in August we celebrate National Science Week – it means some exciting competitions with a bit of a science-y twist. We’ve had Underwater Bases in 2020, Farms in 2021, and this year we’re doing Glass Required, to celebrate NSW’s schools theme in 2022 of Glass: More than meets the eye.

So what does Glass Required mean exactly? We want to see you create something that requires glass to function. Think outside the box though – we don’t want to see things like houses because of windows. Get creative!

The August Comp world gate – located in the Creative Lobby – will replace the July gate which will close to building at 9pm on Sunday July 31st.

The gate will open in the Creative Lobby on the morning of August 1st, so get thinking!

Season 2 Prizes

But what is up for grabs?

As you know, each month we give away the following prizes:

  • 1st Prize: 4x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 15 Emerald Points
  • 2nd Prize: 3x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 10 Emerald Points
  • 3rd Prize: 2x diamond blocks, 1x mega crate key & 5 Emerald Points.

Each month the Emerald Points are tallied up and can be seen in the Emerald Hall on the Survival Lobby world. At the halfway point of the season (September for Season 2 and March for Season 1) we give away prizes to the current top three Emerald Points winners:

  • 1st Place: 1x $25 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 2nd Place: 1x $10 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 3rd Place: 1x $10 JB HiFi Voucher

At the end of the season (June and December), the grand prizes are awarded to the final top three Emerald Points winners from across the 6 months of competition. These are the big ones! This season we’re giving away:

  • 1st Prize: $350 worth of LEGO! The winner would let us know what to order (dependent on availability of course), up to $350 and we’ll get it delivered to you. This was a highly requested prize last year, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer it.
  • 2nd Prize: $100 JB HiFi Voucher
  • 3rd Prize: $50 JB HiFi Voucher

Exciting times!

You asked, We listened!

Over the last couple of months we’ve been working through the feedback we received in our 2022 Evaluation Survey, and it’s time to get everyone’s thoughts on what we’re thinking!

We’ve had some preliminary chats with the players on Discord to get an idea of what would be good and we think we’ve come up with some great ideas. A new page has been created on the website – Evaluation Feedback 2022. It’s also available on the right hand side of the top menu of the site. This page has a summary of what’s been talked about, and a few polls to get some more feedback from the player group as a whole.

These include:

  • the Player of the Month initiative
  • tweaks to the Mega Crate contents
  • a new PVP plugin
  • a poll to see whether you want ladders to be added in BedWars
  • a poll for whether we expand the Survival world for 1.19, or start a brand new one
  • a themed Survival world (similar to PVP Survival, but different)
  • tweaks to the Project worlds
  • tweaks to the Monthly Competitions

Plus workshops, real life meetups, server resource packs, minigames news, tweaks to Discord and more.

The three polls and the Evaluation Feedback page will be available until Sunday 7th August, 9pm, so it’s your chance to tell us what you think of the things we’re planning over the next few months! If you’re a player in LibraryCraft, we want to hear from you. You can also get in touch with us through Discord, or by sending an email to the server as well (seen on the right hand side of this page).
