New Features coming to LibraryCraft

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been going through the feedback from our recent annual survey. There’s been a lot! Thanks to all of our players and parents that submitted feedback, and congratulations to xdboonana, _pluto_9 and Albuman for scoring a $50 JB HiFi voucher!

We’ve set up a space on the New Survival spawn island with large posters of all our feedback. There’s also an opportunity for you to provide more feedback to our responses, with some books and quills and a chest. We want to know what you think! The feedback has also been posted to Discord, for more chances to talk to the team.

On to the changes! In addition to setting up some team challenges, survival structures and hopefully some more minigame maps, there’s two big changes that we’ll be implementing soon.

New Roles

We’ll be adding a new Mentor role in both Discord and in game, for the players that are awesome at helping people and showing new players around. This one is currently being set up and requirements figured out, but we think it will be an excellent way to help new players out. Stay tuned in game on /news and in Discord to find out what the requirements will be.

We’ve also added the Projects role and some pronoun reaction roles to the Discord too. The Projects role will be given to those players that currently have the Projects rank in Discord.

PVP Survival

The biggest change we’ll be implementing is the addition of a new PVP Survival World! Here’s the plan.

  1. We remove The Broken Sky – not everyone plays on it, and out of all the Survival play so far, TBS accounts for only 0.5% of it.
  2. We also remove Laketown PVP.
  3. We replace them with a custom Survival world of around 3000 x 3000 blocks, which is open to PVP.
  4. Claims will not be allowed on this world.
  5. Dynmap will be turned off for this world.
  6. The world is a separate inventory, and enderchests will also not be allowed.
  7. Graves will be turned off.
  8. While PVP will be allowed, ALL other rules will still be in play. No TNT, no cheats, showing respect etc.
  9. You’ll be allowed to loot items from people’s chests, so hide them well!
  10. No griefing will be allowed on this world. No destroying bases for the fun of it. You can make a two block hole to get into someone’s base, but that’s it.
  11. The world will only last for a term plus school holidays, then it gets deleted.
  12. The world will be OPT IN ONLY. If you come to the PVP Survival world, you understand that you may be killed on sight. No coming to check it out and ask for stuff back. A protected spawn island will be set up, where PVP will not be turned on.
  13. The Nether and the End won’t appear. Instead, loot crates will appear with some gear in them.
  14. Players can (and are encouraged to) form alliances.

The biggest takeaway from this is that this is not an anarchy world. Rules will definitely still apply. If players break the rules in the world, they will face the penalties. Below is an image of what the spawn island in this world will be in it’s unbuilt form. We’re getting close to opening this world up!

We’re excited to find out what you think!

June & Emerald Points Season 1 2021 Results

And that’s a wrap on the end of Season 1, 2021! The June competition is complete, the votes are in and have been tallied, so here are the results.

We had some brilliant entries this month, when we asked you to build something Nether related. On to the results.

1st Place: _pluto_9

Pluto gets a win! Creating a spooky but beautiful looking Nether portal representing a sword hilt, with the different biomes of the Nether scattered around.

2nd Place: crazycollie

This time around Collie has built some floating islands with some of the new Nether biomes, a house, and a fantastic looking portal in the centre.

3rd Place: W1indfall

Going tall, W1indfall (formerly _B4C0N and all the other names) has built a stunning spiral tower/cloud/monster? with some excellent use of light in the centre. This looks super imposing and eye catching. Well done!

Honourable Mentions

We have five honourable mention this round, with players scoring some votes, but not enough to make the podium finish.

August Creative Competition – Farm

July’s WA Landmarks competition has only just begun, and the builds are looking excellent, but I want to get everyone excited for what is next. August means National Science Week, and as we did last year, the August competition is bigger than most.

In August we’re celebrating National Science Week’s 2021 theme of Food: Different by Design, so we’re asking you to build your best Farm. (Thanks to Keralis from HermitCraft S7 for the unbelievable build above!)

We have changed the plot sizes for this competition, with big 104×50 sized plots. (Don’t ask about the extra 4…)

Here’s the rules, with some extra ones!

Rules

  • All building is in Creative Mode
  • Builders must use ONE plot only
  • All building must be done on the August Comp Map
  • Designs must be your own
  • Single player entries only – no team builds
  • Farms can be animals or crops

Each base MUST include:

  • Farms need to be carbon neutral. Generation of power can be by water wheel, wind turbine, solar panels etc. Anything carbon neutral.
  • Farms need to show evidence of
    • Irrigation
    • Harvesting
    • Storage
    • Transport of resources in and out (roads, gates etc)
    • Homestead/living (can be partial, or a facade if need be)

Judging will happen during the first week of September.

As per normal, the August Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the July gate which will close to building at 9pm on Saturday July 31st.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of August 1st, so get planning and designing now – you’ll only have a month to build. Players Choice votes will also be open as usual.

Prizes

The top three designs will win an extra special prize, just for August! Regular Emerald Points prizes will be given out as usual, along with diamond blocks.

1st Place: 1x Sphero SPRK+
2nd Place: 1x LEGO Minecraft 21170 The Pig House*
3rd Place: 1x LEGO 40385 Trophy

*Please note that the LEGO Minecraft set has been opened once to be built for review on bricktasticblog.com, before being broken down and bagged. All parts including spares are included.

Who’s excited? We are!

Meet the Players – Countdodododo

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I have been playing Minecraft since about 2014. 15, 16? I don’t really know but the first edition I played was PlayStation 4 with my sister, I remember playing in the Christmas texture pack and trying to kill undefeatable Santa with sticks (a retextured iron golem) After that I started playing MCPE in 2018 because it seemed cool and all the cool people at school had it. Now I play Minecraft Java.

What made you start playing Minecraft?

I can’t remember but I guess I must have just tried playing it on the PlayStation and liked it. As I said before I got MCPE because I thought it might be fun and all the cool kids were playing it. I started playing Java because LibraryCraft on MCPE was very glitchy and all my builds kept losing blocks and glitching.

What type of Minecraft player are you?

We’ll use the following list – based off Mumbo Jumbo’s video – 20 Different Types of Minecraft Player, with a couple of modifications.

  • The Gadget Guy (loves making little redstone contraptions around their base to make life easier)
  • The Resource Hoarder (everything gets stored in piles and piles of chests, even if they don’t need them)
  • The Monument Builder (they always have to have the biggest build on the server)
  • The Autofarmer (farms have to have pistons, daylight detectors, the works)
  • The Explorer (no set base, everything they have is in their inventory. They just walk)
  • The Subterranean Hermits (their entire base must be underground)
  • The Artist (all the pixel art!)
  • The Competitors (minigames is their jam – PvP, Spleef, Parkour, all that)
  • The Code Wizards (whether it’s command blocks or crazy complex redstone)
  • The Mod Fans (Vanilla Minecraft? Nah – bring on the mods and plugins)
  • The Medieval Builders (villages, ships, the lot)
  • The Modern Architect (modern houses, modern resource packs, lots of concrete)
  • The Challenge Fan (Skyblock, Survival SuperFlat, Hardcore Mode – bring on the challenges)
  • The Long Gamers (using the same world since 1.8 or before – such dedication)
  • The Minimalist (a simple house and a few farms will do fine)

Well, I’m probably the Minimalist, I’m not a hardcore gamer so as long as I can get what a need relatively quickly (except for glass, why glass, if I could have infinite of every block I would definitely have GLASS) I am also a medieval builder, my whole base is a village! If you don’t know, I love history (just ask me to sing the first verse of Rule Britannia). I’m also a bit of an explorer.

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I mostly start up a world the same, build a nice, simple wood house and make a mine. I mainly explore the overworld and sometimes venture to the Nether. I’m I bit of a noob to be honest and I only have good stuff on LibraryCraft because of the /back command. (Oh, thank God for /back).

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

That’s a hard one, I never really made any good builds until I started entering the LC build comps. My top three are probably my April comp build, my February comp build and my January comp build. I have so many other that I really like such as a church I made in MCPE or my November 2020 comp build.

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

Oh, haha. Get ready to see how noob I am! I have defeated the Ender Dragon multiple times in LC but I don’t count that as legitimate because LC has /back, /home and the lot. I have also killed the dragon multiple times in creative. (hahahaha) So all in all I have never killed the Ender Dragon legitimately. One day I will… One day.

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

This one is interesting because my base is a town. It originally started as my little house in a village, but it has now grown to many buildings created by many different players. There is a village house, a big lake, a watchtower, players’ offices and so much more. I like having a town and I am hopefully planning to make DoDoVille, which is my town’s name, in 1.17 Survival. If you want to visit me or read about DoDoVille come down and ask for a copy of the History of DoDoVille. (Yes, I legit made a book about a town in a block game).

What’s your favourite block?

My favourite block is definitely the netherite block. It looks so cool and on top of that it is very valuable. Unfortunately for me, even though this is my favourite block, because it is so hard to get, I only ever get my hands on it in creative.

How about your favourite mob?

I don’t really know. My favourite mob is probably the Iron Golem, they are really cool and can do lots of damage (I don’t like these guys when I accidentally hit a villager.) I also like dolphins and PARROTS.

I also really like Herobrine, but he’s not a mob (Yet…)

If you have seen me before you will also know that I have an immense hate for the illagers. I kill every illager I see which has led me to kill over 2000 pillagers in over 60 raids.

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

My favourite thing to do on LC is definitely the monthly comps. They are so fun to build and it lets my imagination run free. It’s amazing to see what other players on the server can build as well. Some of JTripleM’s and Crazycollie’s builds are amazing. But above them all there is a newcomer, _Pluto_9 who has some amazing talent they have been hiding. (just look at their May comp build, I mean AMAZING) I wonder how this morphed to talking about builders?

Thanks for reading about me!

Everything you need to know about the July BedWars Tournament

It’s almost time for the School Holiday BedWars Tournaments! Registrations are now open for the July School Holiday Tournament. Read on for all the info!

All matches (including the Grand Finals) will be a double elimination knockout. You must lose twice in order to be out of the competition. If you lose once, you can still come back and win the whole thing. All matches will be played on a brand new map – Castle, and there will be no grace periods – the match will play as default.

This time we are running two Solo tournaments each running over a week:

5th to 11th July
12th to 18th July

Registrations close at 9pm on Saturday July 3rd, and the brackets will be created and available on Sunday July 4th.

It is up to the players to schedule their matches during the week, and report back to LightKLibrary, preferably through Discord in #tournaments, or using in-game mail if you do not have Discord access.

Something that is crucial at this time of year – talk to your parents about your availabilities during the week. It’s the Easter school holidays. If you have something on, you need to find out so you are aware. You need to be available to play, or it inconveniences the rest of the players, and the organisers.

You need to mail LightKLibrary in game to register.

Please select the week you wish to compete in by saying Week 1 or Week 2. Also indicate if you would be interested in playing in the other tournament as well. You may be added as a player or as a substitute.

Forfeiting

If you cannot make your match during the allocated dates, you will forfeit the match. Report it as soon as you know. Don’t leave it until the last minute! It’s a lot of work to organise tournaments, and last minute forfeits can be annoying.

Once a new match has been confirmed and the players have been tagged/messaged in game/Discord, you have 24 hours to PLAY the match, or it will be deemed a forfeit. The player that is causing the delay will be the player that forfeits. If this can’t be determined, it will be a 50/50 decision by the Mod Team.

FAQ

What should I report to Kirsty?
1. Report if you are unable to schedule a match during the allocated week.
2. Both players must report the results after the match, in either Discord (#tournaments) or using in-game mail.

Kirsty will then update the bracket, so the next match can be scheduled.

Can I report to JohnsanGeezo?
Nope, to lighten the load on us, we’re taking it in turns. This time it’s Kirsty’s turn to run the tournament.

Are you sure we can’t delay the matches we can’t play to a different week?
Yes. You must complete your matches in the tournament week. This is so results and prizes can be finalised in a timely fashion, and stops a lot of confusion.

Can we use a different map, like Arena or Forest?
No, all matches must be played on Forest, so it’s fair for everyone.

Can we have longer grace periods before PvP starts?
No, the default game settings must be used. All matches must be played fair and according to the rules. If exploits or cheats are seen to be used, the player using them will instantly forfeit the match, and the player will be placed in jail according to server rules.

Can another player (registered or not registered) play instead?
Yes! This time around we’re having a substitutes list. The first 32 players to register will be in the tournament proper (16 for each tournament). Any registrations before the close date will go on the Substitutes list. Any late registrations (between the close date and tournament start) will also be on the Substitutes list.

You MUST be available to play during that week at short notice if you are a substitute.

Ok, what are the brackets?
They’re not made yet – you need to register first!

Good luck!

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I have been playing Minecraft since about 2010, when I was using my brother’s account. I finally got my own in 2011.

What made you start playing Minecraft?

Ever since I was young, I’ve watched my brother play Minecraft. I was just having so much fun watching him play it!

I would say I’m an Explorer because I just have so much fun exploring and finding cool things made with Minecraft world generation!

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I mix it up. It’s fun to try new things and challenges. One challenge I’ve tried is to never craft stone tools, and you can only get iron ore after you find some iron in a chest somewhere (like in a desert temple).

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

I don’t have one. I’m not really a builder. Instead of building, I like taking screenshots of other players’ builds with shaders to make it look really cool!

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

I think I’ve beaten it over 20 times.

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

My LC base looks like a bastion from the Nether. One of it’s features is a secret shulker box tunnel. The shulker box pushes you through itself when it’s opened with an air block above it. It makes for a cool secret entrance.

What’s your favourite block?

My favourite block is Polished Blackstone because of the darkness of the block. It fits with other dark blocks. Quartz also fits well with it if you’re creating a Nether themed base.

How about your favourite mob?

My favourite mob is the silverfish. They’re rare and you can only find them in infested blocks and at an end portal.

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

My favourite thing to do is try to find untouched structures and claim them to make a cool decorative place that people can come across while travelling.

July Build Competition – WA Landmarks

We’re currently in the final month of the Emerald Points Competition Season 1, and players are hard at work building their Nether themed builds. It’s looking amazing, but it’s about time we start talking about Season 2! We’re doing something a little different, and asking for WA Landmarks.

Here’s the rules, and there are a few extra ones.

Rules

  • Builds MUST be from Western Australia
  • Landmarks can be natural or man made
  • A sign must be placed at the front of the build, telling us what it is (even if it’s obvious)
  • All building must be in Creative Mode
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • All entries must be built on the July Comp world
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online!

Judging will take place during the first week of August 2021. The July Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the June gate which will close to building at 9pm on Wednesday June 30th.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of July 1st.

We’ve also got a big one planned for August, to celebrate National Science Week again, with some extra prizes! Stay tuned!

Meet the Players – crazycollie

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I’ve been playing Minecraft since about 2012 so just over 9 years!

What made you start playing Minecraft?

My brother and his friend were playing it one day and they started showing me their pocket edition world! I thought it looked pretty cool so I decided to join too.

I’m probably quite of lot of them! The main one for me would definitely be a resource hoarder though. I always have chests and chests full of things I don’t really need! I am probably also a bit of a monument builder, a little bit of explorer, competitor and a medieval builder.

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I usually start my Minecraft world the same way each time! I like to get straight into mining and always get a bit carried away getting ores and end up getting killed by a skeleton because I never bothered to make armour! Once I get out of the cave alive, I usually take ages to find a nice spot for a base and then go from there.

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

My favourite build I have created hasn’t been finished yet but JtripleM and I are currently building a full scale Hogwarts! I think this may be my favourite build so far because I’m a huge Harry Potter fan!

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

I have beaten the ender dragon quite a few times, but not fully in survival so I don’t think that counts! I think I may have beaten the Ender dragon in full survival once, but it was with a couple of friends.

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

My LC base is a big castle that I share with JtripleM! There is a small medieval village out the front thanks to Turtleboy2929 built during the big base swap which looks awesome. The actual castle itself is built out of various types of stone and the inside is full of chests and storage, plus a couple of rooms just for decoration!

What’s your favourite block?

My favourite block is spruce wood in any form! I love the way you can use it with lots of different types of blocks, giving you a wide variety of things you can build with it!

How about your favourite mob?

My favourite mob is probably a pig or a fox. I think they are both really cute and love to keep them as pets!

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

My favourite thing to do in LC is probably TNT Run or building in the monthly comps!

Meet the Players – Zashu

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I’m not certain how long I’ve been playing but I do remember in about 2011-2012 my parents buying me Java Minecraft because I wouldn’t stop begging for it!

What made you start playing Minecraft?

What made me get into Minecraft was mainly the amount of hours I spent watching YouTube and mainly Minecraft channels like stampy, dantdm, popularMMOs and so on. Another thing was that everyone and school played it and I wanted to play with my friends.

I think when it comes to survival worlds I like exploring a lot so I’d be the Explorer and also a Hoarder since all my chests are just filled randomly with stuff.

John: I can completely agree with this – I got Zashu’s base in the Big Base Swap, and the chest monster was enormous!

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I usually start the same when playing Minecraft. Find wood, explore, find nice place to make a base and that’s mostly it.

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

My favourite creation I’ve ever created would have to be the sky island in my realm world. It took a long time and I’m really proud of it. It took me a few tries to perfect the island form but in the end it became amazing.

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

I cannot remember how many times I have defeated the ender dragon, but I’d say a rough guess would be like somewhere between 30-50, but I’m not really sure!

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

My main LC base right now is in a small valley area surrounded by hills. It has a underground base in the middle which is surrounded by a river. There’s a stone crewmate from Among Us on the side of one of the mountains which overlooks the valley.

What’s your favourite block?

I don’t know why but I really like using book shelves while building. I think book shelves just make whatever it is look really nice.

How about your favourite mob?

My favourite mob would have to be the wither because it creates destruction everywhere!

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

My favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft is just relax, chill, build and talk with all the wonderful people.
