Meet the Players – JtripleM

We’ve met a bunch of our moderators, time to meet some of our players! First up is JtripleM.

How long have you been playing Minecraft?

I think I’ve been playing Minecraft since about 2012-2013 which makes that about 7-8 years now. It feels very weird to know it’s been that long!

What made you start playing Minecraft?

What made me start playing Minecraft was one of my mates. I remember going over to his house and playing this new game he got called Minecraft on his PS3.

I remember me and him being terrified of Herobrine and constantly watching YouTube tutorials on how to spawn him into the game back in 2013!

What type of Minecraft player are you?

We’ll use the following list – based off Mumbo Jumbo’s video – 20 Different Types of Minecraft Player, with a couple of modifications.

  • The Gadget Guy (loves making little redstone contraptions around their base to make life easier)
  • The Resource Hoarder (everything gets stored in piles and piles of chests, even if they don’t need them)
  • The Monument Builder (they always have to have the biggest build on the server)
  • The Autofarmer (farms have to have pistons, daylight detectors, the works)
  • The Explorer (no set base, everything they have is in their inventory. They just walk)
  • The Subterranean Hermits (their entire base must be underground)
  • The Artist (all the pixel art!)
  • The Competitors (minigames is their jam – PvP, Spleef, Parkour, all that)
  • The Code Wizards (whether it’s command blocks or crazy complex redstone)
  • The Mod Fans (Vanilla Minecraft? Nah – bring on the mods and plugins)
  • The Medieval Builders (villages, ships, the lot)
  • The Modern Architect (modern houses, modern resource packs, lots of concrete)
  • The Challenge Fan (Skyblock, Survival SuperFlat, Hardcore Mode – bring on the challenges)
  • The Long Gamers (using the same world since 1.8 or before – such dedication)
  • The Minimalist (a simple house and a few farms will do fine)

Good question! So many options on the list but the one that describes me the best I reckon is a Medieval Builder. As most of you probably know by now, I love building in Minecraft, probably my favourite thing to do actually and I really love the medieval style! If you’ve seen my current survival base, it is a castle. I’m planning to build a village and medieval trading ship at the dock!

Do you start a world the same way every time, or mix it up?

I usually start off my survival worlds by mostly exploring the first day whilst collecting materials such as wood and iron. I usually run out of time in the day and end up being chased by zombies and other monsters. Usually spend my first night in a dirt hole in the ground!

What’s your favourite ever build you’ve created?

That’s a hard one! I really like some of my builds so it’s hard to pick my favourite one. I think my favourite build on the LibraryCraft server would have to be either the PVP lobby or the Empire State Building with King Kong climbing up the side. Both builds were really fun to make!

How many times have you beaten the EnderDragon?

I could not tell you how many times I’ve defeated the EnderDragon because I actually don’t know! I know that sounds a bit cocky but I think it’s my mission in Minecraft to kill the dragon. I load up a new world and everything I do is preparation to that big mission! A Minecraft world isn’t complete without killing the dragon in my opinion.

What does your LC base look like? What are some of it’s features?

My LibraryCraft base looks like a Medieval village (well, will look like one soon). I have a Medieval Castle with stone castle walls all the way around but are yet to add many buildings. We have a dock where I am also planning to build a medieval trading ship! We have storage rooms, bedrooms, enchanting rooms, everything a good base needs is in our castle!

What’s your favourite block?

That’s a tough question but I think my favourite block would have to be the spruce log block. This is my favourite block because it is my favourite block to build with and can be made into so many other handy/good things such as spruce planks, spruce stairs, sticks etc.

How about your favourite mob?

My favourite Minecraft mob is definitely the Zombie. The only reason this is my favourite is because it is pretty easy to defeat and can’t ruin my newly built house. Looking at you creepers!

What’s your favourite thing to do in LibraryCraft?

My favourite thing to do in the LibraryCraft server is definitely building new things and lobbies for the server as a builder. The thing I love about building for the server is that it can be anything you want, with such a wide variety of block choices, you can go crazy!

LCBBS – The Changes

Around a month ago a group of 12 players took part in the LCBBS – the LibraryCraft Big Base Swap, where pairs of players swapped bases and modified them in their style. It was great to see the excitement in the chat and Discord, so now here’s some of the results! Not every base was able to be worked on (life sometimes gets in the way and that’s okay), but here are some of the bases with the biggest changes. You can see the previous images in the first post about the LCBBS.

Zashu

This was a fun one – I took on Zashu’s base, and added a fallen temple area in the corner, a new mega portal, a hidden super smelter behind the Among Us spaceman, a stable for the animals under a cliff, a chicken coop, and the biggest job of all, clearing out the huge chest monster that covered the entire base!

JohnsanGeezo

Zashu went all out with my base, completely redesigning the house, and adding so much more! I honestly love it. It’s incredible! A campfire area, large outdoor table, bridge, more farms, ship and…

…even a full private library in the basement. It’s phenomenal. Thanks Z!

Cotal

Now known as sweedish and thanks to _keq, Cotal’s base had a huge overhaul, with heaps of aesthetic changes that look great.

The farms underground are also beautiful to check out.

Cram_

To be perfectly honest I’m not sure what’s changed here – I think the portion in the centre at the bottom is new, as well as the big torch? Either way, it looks cool! Nice work Flash.

SuperHeroFlash

On the other side, Cram changed heaps in Flash’s base, with more terrain changes and details galore. It looks excellent.

Jish_Le_Fish

Jish’s base (thanks to B4C0N), got a good overhaul, with most noticeably (to me at least) saw the farm areas getting an overhaul. It looks great!

TurtleBoy2929

TurtleBoy got a good deal, scoring a couple of excellent builders in JtripleM and CrazyCollie1205. The changes here are pretty monumental! I’ll let the pictures do the talking. Wow.

That’s it! We’ll be sure to do the LCBBS again in the next Minecraft version, with all that beautiful new cave world generation. Thanks to everyone who took part!

June Build Competition – Nether

It’s the final month of Season 1, 2021’s Emerald Points Competition – we’re finishing the season off by heading to the Nether!

Here’s the rules.

Rules

  • All building must be in Creative Mode
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • All entries must be built on the June Comp world
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online!

Judging will take place during the first week of July 2021. The June Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the May gate which will close to building at 9pm on Monday May 31st.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of June 1st.

April Wild West Competition – Results

The April Wild West Competition has been wrapped up, the moderators have submitted their votes, so here’s the results, plus the honourable mentions. We had a few less entries this month, but they were still all great to explore!

1st Place: Countdodododo

Count notches up win number two with a phenomenal train build – the classic train going over a large bridge that’s been destroyed is almost a staple Wild West scene, and it’s been executed really well. Great job Count. There’s even a bonus croc!

2nd Place: _pluto_9

Formerly known as frankie8_, _pluto_9 has created a stunning Wild West town, with a hotel, Sheriff’s office, stable, cemetery and train line running through. It must have a good water source nearby, as the greenery just pops. Well done Pluto!

3rd Place: Kursed7280084

Kursed also built a small settlement, with plenty of livestock around (including someone auctioning off a rare jeb_sheep (a sheep that cycles through various colours). I love the mineshaft that was included here too.

Honourable Mentions

Three other builders also scored votes but didn’t quite get across the line.

CrazyCollie1205

SpeedCat995 (B4C0N)

_Dragonlover_

Congratulations to all our winners and honourable mentions! The winnings will be sent out soon! Good luck with all your library builds – they’re looking great so far.

Caves & Cliffs Update and A New Economy

As some of you may know, on Thursday Mojang released the latest snapshot for 1.17 development. Given the size of 1.17, they’ve decided to change a few things up and split 1.17 into two releases.

The Summer Update focuses on blocks and mobs, and then the Holiday release for World Generation. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere is around September. There will be updates to our plugins during that time so we will get the blocks, but they won’t automatically generate in the game. Some will – like amethysts and copper, but the rest will only be available in Creative Mode. Mobs that we’ve seen in snapshots already will appear though.

Because the world generation won’t happen until at least the start of 2022 for us (we need to wait for plugin updates to happen first, which take some time), we won’t add a new world just yet. OldSurvival and NewSurvival will stay for the time being.

As the Survival worlds are preloaded with a worldborder, all of the explorable land has been explored, so nothing new will spawn in the current worldborder of 5k x 5k, so we’ll be expanding the NewSurvival worldborder to 7.5k x 7.5k. If you want those new items, you’re going to need to go exploring in the new areas!

For the other items that won’t naturally spawn, they’ll be available in an AdminShop, for a price of diamonds. When Update 2 comes out and is available for us in 2022, OldSurvival will go, NewSurvival will become 116Survival, and 117Survival will appear, in all it’s worldgen glory! Speaking of those AdminShops…

LC Economy 2.0

We’ve noticed over the last year that our economy has stagnated. Balances are being collected in order to be the richest, some shops are asking for payment in diamonds or emeralds, shops are mostly empty (save 2 or 3), or prices are exorbitant. There’s a solution that the Mods and I have come up with.

We’re planning on using two new plugins: The Diamond Bank and Shopkeepers. The Diamond Bank allows for storage of diamonds in a digital vault. Holding diamonds in your hand, enter /deposit and they’ll be safely stored away. Entering /withdraw will get them out. Shopkeepers uses villagers with custom selling interfaces – much like what you see already, but players can add the items they want to sell, for either an amount of diamonds, or to trade. They work really well, and shopkeepers are also able to be changed to different mobs. Check the Shopkeepers link above to see it in action.

Anyway, here’s what we’re proposing. There’s two choices. To vote, log in to the server and cast your vote by selecting Option 1 or 2.

Option 1

When we get 1.17 Update 1 in September, we:

  • remove the current /shop system (we’re not really using it anyway, except to get more money)
  • remove ChestShops.
  • Current /balances will be wiped and removed.
  • Add The Diamond Bank and Shopkeepers as the primary shop systems. These would be used on both OldSurvival and NewSurvival.
  • Competition plots would become free
  • Competition prizes would become diamonds, not money
  • Heads would be free to purchase, except player heads, that will cost diamonds.
  • Players would buy a special villager egg worth a diamond block for use in their shops.
  • AdminShop Villagers would be available to purchase the 1.17 items that do not naturally spawn, for diamonds.

Option 2

We do the same thing (without the AdminShop Villagers) when 1.17 Update 2 comes out in 2022.

So – the choices are we change to the new system in September (Option 1), or January 2022 (Option 2).

We think this will revitalise the economy system and make mining for diamonds all the more crucial! Diamond trading works extremely well on other servers, without the need for complicated economy systems. Diamonds are also much more versatile in the game! We think this’ll be an awesome change. It might take some getting used to, but we can do it!

May Build Competition – Library

To celebrate 2021’s National Library & Information Week, happening from May 17 – 23, we’re asking our players to build their best Library! I’m very excited about this one.

Here’s the rules!

Rules

  • All building must be in Creative Mode
  • This is a Single Player Competition – Team builds are not allowed
  • Builders can claim ONE plot only
  • All entries must be built on the May Comp world
  • Designs must be your own – no copying from online!

Judging will take place during the first week of June 2021. The May Comp world gate – located on the Warp Ship – will replace the April gate which will close to building at 9pm on Friday April 30th.

The gate will open on the Warp Ship on the morning of May 1st.

LCBBS – The Bases and the Swaps

We had a very excited response to the LibraryCraft Big Base Swap, with 12 bases submitted. This is great, as it’s a clean six pairs. Before getting in to the bases and the swaps, a few little rules, in addition to the ones in the post linked before.

  • All players involved will get a /mail from John with your new base coordinates, and who the previous owner was (in case you didn’t see it here).
  • Claims will be transferred by me. No need to change them.
  • Remember, this is for modification of bases, not destruction.
  • The items you take from your new chests are only to be used to modify the base, not to stock yourself up, or to be sold. Treat your new base as you’d like someone to treat your old one.
  • When the claims are transferred, all existing trusted players will be temporarily removed. In order to maintain security (new owners don’t necessarily know who should be trusted), no other player apart from the new owner will be given trust access at any level. Please do not ask to be trusted in a base that is currently a part of the LCBBS. The new owners will say no. Once the swap goes back, trust goes back under the control of the original owner.
  • You will not have any access to your old base. You also can’t ask for temporary access, just for a second. Try not to use your /home commands to get back there – have a bit of fun and trust the new owner! Surprises can be exciting.

Ok on to the bases that were submitted! Bring on some photos…

Introducing the LCBBS!

The what? It’s the LibraryCraft Big Base Swap! To mix things up and see what can happen, we’re running an opt-in Big Base Swap. Players will be assigned a different existing base on NewSurvival to modify!

To be a part of the fun, simply place a named book into the chest that’s in the Old Auction House (now the LCBBS Building) at NewSurvival Spawn Island. The book must also include the coordinates of your base.

Here are some always-important rules:

  1. You are not being forced to do this! It’s only if you want to.
  2. No clearing out items from chests before you leave. You can only take tools, armour, netherite ingots elytra and rockets. Everything else must stay behind. Everything.
  3. If you have multiple bases, you must give up your best NewSurvival base.
  4. No destruction for destruction’s sake. Feel free to talk to the original owner to see the direction they wanted to take, but it’s also up to you if you want to do something different. Remember though – you are modifying bases, not completely rebuilding. No tearing down what’s there already.
  5. No swapping back straight away! You must have the new base for at least 1 month before asking to swap back. You can of course stay swapped for longer. Remember, be nice to each other.
  6. The draw will be chosen by John.
  7. Mods will be allowed to participate! You might get a mod’s base…
  8. Whatever you do not use during the swap must stay at the base! No blatant robbery.

The LCBBS is now open for entrants! Registrations will close at 9pm on Thursday 15th April. Your new base name (and location) will be in your mail the following morning. The deed to your new property (the book) will be in a chest at that base. Don’t lose it! You’ll need to swap them over again at the end.

March Caves Competition – Results

March is all done – time for the results! Most of the building happened underground this month, so pictures are a little trickier, but there’s at least one underground image for each of the winners. It also marks the mid-season point for the competition, so some prizes are up for grabs for the top three at the moment.

Here’s the top three, and some honourable mentions.

1st Place: CrazyCollie1205

Collie gets win number two with a highly detailed exterior and interior build for March – I particularly love the crane outside. Inside is a very nicely decorated bunker, complete with tropical fish! The shower block is great, even if it’s not all that private!

2nd Place: Countdodododo

Count is back in the top three with an innovative exterior design. The road and powerlines are great, and I love the overturned truck! Inside there’s story galore, with almost every character having a sign for speech. Count, you’re a brilliant storyteller!

3rd Place: B4C0N__

Fresh after a slight username tweak, Bacon has built a smoking underground bunker in what seems to be a dead forest. I particularly like the large pipes leading into the textured green lake. Inside there’s iron blocks galore (which looks great with my textures), and a very clinical and orderly build, with much more below.

Honourable Mentions

Three other builders also scored votes but didn’t quite get across the line.

Lastly, there’s the Mid Season winners! Here’s how the leaderboard looks after March:

  • Countdodododo – 35 pts
  • CrazyCollie1205 – 20 pts
  • B4C0N- 15 pts
  • JtripleM- 15 pts
  • Kursed7280084 – 5 pts

To split up the two third places, we go by the number of votes gathered since the start of the season. So that’s 10 votes for JtripleM and 18 for B4C0N! The winners are Count, Collie and B4C0N. Woo! Count, you get a $25 JB HiFi Voucher, with Collie and B4C0N getting a $10 one each.

Congratulations to all our winners and honourable mentions! I’ll send out the winnings for the top three this afternoon, and will reach out to the mid-season winners on Discord to arrange collection.
